Here is what is in my head: The picture of a gray and decayed corpse. One can see the ribs of a chest of a once-proud human, now draped in tattered clothing long since eroded by the elements. The shell of a life that once inhabited these dusty remains has been turned from bloody death to black death to fading memories of the life it fed in its decay.

Surrounding this pale-coal colored body is that of the most verdant field, with gently sloping hills and dales, where thin blades of grass reach skyward. Their reach wriggles through the air like busy little tentacles of Earth. As the grass tickles at the azure sky, broad and deep, the gates of heaven lay beyond.

The poor sot, laying on the grass, in this lovely and bucolic setting, just stares through its eyeless skull, mouth agape in a silent and bellicose torment. And the birds flutter and play across the face of the sun that bakes the dead of the Earth.

Isn't that beautiful?

What about the rats that happilly feast on the flesh and the insects that have found a temporary home? don't they have a part in this imagery?

Sorry to have forgotten about the rats. They are an integral part of the feast of decay. And the roaches and maggots make everything yummy with the residue of their consumption.
