Rubbish and Revelations

Headphones have a way of blocking out the outside world. Duh. That's the point. Stop pointing out the obvious.
They allow you to focus, to hear things in a way normally impossible. No music is mixed without headphones at some point, because with headphones it is the only way to completely focus upon WHAT YOU ARE HEARING.
Like last night, for example. I was hearing [ok reading a text message from] a friend's angst and his emotional pain, stemming from a recent breakup with his girlfriend of about a year and change, on and off. I could be wrong. Anyways, long enough to feel it. This isn't just some friend. The first time I saw this guy, he was opening up for Wednesday 13, who has worked with Joey from Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and dozens of others, in a very 6-Degrees-from-Kevin-Bacon way. The fact that he was occupying the same floorboards and backstage as Wednesday 13 and the fact that I was a huge Seattle scene n00b, placed him in a status far eclipsing mine by a great margin.
But the thing is...
A few relatively short measurements of time later, I'm the first one he talks to when he breaks up with his girlfriend.
The world is weird. Maybe someday I'll become so motivated and backtrace everything good that has happened to me since moving to Seattle, the roots of which go back at least nine years. Think about your own life and what exactly brought you to where you are today, and before you know it you'll be deep into the past. Life takes you places you could never suspect or imagine, so don't even bother trying.
