Socks are the devil. I started a heel-less sock (it was a pattern from WW2, the idea was that soldiers could twist the sock around to avoid wearing out a heel) and I couldn't even manage that. I thought my gauge was EXACT but it came out huge. I've been having issues with the book I got the pattern from though, I can triple check the gauge all day but everything comes out wider or longer than it should.

I do pretty well at socks. (I don't remember if I've posted pics.) It's just me being ultra picky and perfectionist.

Saya 12-03-2015 08:38 PM

I have finished my first sock!

I just really wanted someone to know!

Anise 12-04-2015 04:04 AM

I don't knit, but I am a Sewciopath ..
Was awake until past 3am sewing, I'm so rock 'n' roll \m/
All power to you my crafty darlings <3

Stormbringer 12-04-2015 04:44 AM

You are a sewphisticated lady Anise. Art and craft rules - Creativity ; that Zen like state of timlessness and inner calm - sublime !

Saya 12-04-2015 05:29 PM

I haven't blocked it so I haven't hidden the lumps and ladders yet, but voila!

Wow, that's a really neat and decent sock! It's perfect.

Makes me sad that I don't have the time/energy/motivation to knit anymore :(

laughing goth 12-05-2015 12:07 AM

Its a sock! Good job. :) just one more.

laughing goth 12-05-2015 12:11 AM

what do you sew Anise ?

Anise 12-05-2015 01:30 PM

Awwwwwwwww I love it Saya!
You knit master a sock lol ;)
I like the colour, and it's uber sock like!
*I imagine if I attempted this my own effort may resemble a small sack!?
Bloody well done Saya Sock Maker Extraordinaire :D

Oh I sew all kindsa stuff & things ...
I started off customizing my clothes when I was a teen, but it's only this last year that I've attempted creating clothing from scratch - well, from a pattern.
It's a huge step up from modifying, embellishing etc .. lol but I do still feel the need to add D Rings and accoutrements such as skull buttons :p

I attend a dressmaking nite class in a local college, it's a lotta fun.
Hoping to work my way up to the 'biggie project' of making a Victorian bustle dress .. here's hoping LOL .. thus far I've attempted a black skirt with skull belt banding and a 'Wednesday Addams' style dress. The latter is unfinished as yet and currently resembles a weird black sack cloth LMAOoooo
And .. I am so fucking proud of it! :D

Anise 12-05-2015 01:31 PM

It's like ...
I MADE THIS! ;)

Saya 12-05-2015 01:51 PM

Thanks guys!

I hear you, when I'm depressed it's really hard to make myself knit. What seems to be working is that I don't allow myself to listen to audiobooks, podcasts or radio shows unless I'm doing something productive, so I like I can't listen to Dead Dog Cafe Comedy Hour unless I'm cleaning the bathroom, and right now I'm listening to old episodes of Suspense while I knit. I also make myself knit when I watch tv or play a tabletop game.

laughing goth 12-06-2015 01:19 PM

So here we are on a Goth forum talking about knitting and sowing.
who would have thought ?
It would be nice if we could all meet up and make stuff together. I have so many things I would like to do but I have no sewing machine.

Hahahaa I know! Seriously .. who woulda thunk it!?
Peeps who view us warily with a slightly raised eyebrow, ohhh how little you know! I'll have you know that our most beloved pastimes are needlework and sipping tea with our pinkie fingers at jaunty angles!

Oh for sure, sewing machines are fabuloso, but as Saya mentioned - sitting working away to a fave tv show or a movie .. that's my gig. It's early days for me with la machine, oft times I end up riled and swearing lol ;)
Hand sewing ya have more control and better precision .. maybe that comes in time with machining? Fucking well hope so o.O

Hey .. ya know what .. a little Gothic Sewing Group would be so lush! :D
I'd bloomin' LOVE that! <3

That's a good idea, I can't seem to focus on listening or watching stuff though. I've truly become the flattest most apathetic non-productive piece of shit. And if there's nowhere I can safely/comfortably wear the stuff made it feels like there's no point.

I'm tempted to just put pictures of old stuff to contribute to the thread but that's cheating.

Sounds like heaven to me Anise. I do some beading. I make necklaces and bracelets using real stone, or re-cycled beads along with found objects carved sticks, shells, skulls if possible. But add to that sipping tea with jauntilly poised pinkies......ahhh !

laughing goth 12-07-2015 03:36 AM

Why do I feel that this would be the most hilarious reality tv show ever.
Goth tea time, goth sowing circle.
We are not weird.
People would not believe it because every one knows goths are all devil worshiping fetish freaks.

Acharis post your old stuff we have not seen it yet so its not cheating.
I love looking at what others have made.

I can't get the idea of a Goth sewing circle out of my head. Its just to cool.

Acharis 12-07-2015 07:28 AM

I dunno, the idea of goths sewing together or punks studding and making patches together feels really natural to me and not odd at all. I even have a mental image of it with everyone hanging out sitting in a circle.

Can anyone confirm if this communal crafting was ever an established thing, or is my perception skewed by the diy-heavy way the culture was first presented to me and having to make a lot of what I wanted?

Okay. It feels like cheating because these are from years ago, but I honestly would like to show people what I made before motivation left me. I'll see how many links I can fit in an entry... forgive me if I have to double post or make a few over days and apologies to anyone who's already seen.

Frankenjeans - These came about through necessity, as I'd grown out of my favourite black jeans and they had holes. I picked open the seams and stitched in strips of velvet to let them out a bit, sewed in peek-a-boo scraps of velvet behind the holes to patch, and put pins for adjustable width and decoration. Side view

Burgundy net stockings - these drove me round the bend because I didn't have yarn that contained elastic or was even of the right weight. I had to rework the pattern to fit my leg and foot. In progress, front, back

Anise 12-07-2015 07:02 PM

Frankenjeans!

Acharis! I LOOOOVE YOU! :D
Awesomeness abound, looking forward to the share!
Hey, maybe la urge will come back? Don't feel pressured in regards.
Maybe some fine morn you'll waken and think 'yeaaah it's on!' ...

I get waves of feeling like pottering about.
That's what I call it lol, I'm not actually a potter *guffaw*guffaw*
I tend to flit about from different pursuits, whatever strikes my fancy?

Acharis 12-08-2015 04:43 AM

Thankyou! :) I hope one day I can go back to making things, these days I'm drained and can't even force it.

Red/black stripy socks - These drove me spare but I'm proud because I challenged myself with techniques. I did them both at once on the same needles using the Magic Loop method.

It's not that bad to do a pair at once or Magic Loop if you're used to socks, it's just that if you're using multiple colours the rotation tends to twist and tangle all the unused yarn strands together and make it harder to work.

Starting with the toe cap, heels done, halfway up, finished

Acharis 12-08-2015 09:58 PM

You know... I think I don't craft much because I overcomplicate things

laughing goth 12-09-2015 12:34 PM

Acharis love the jeans.
I was not thinking that all of us sitting around sewing would be weird, I was thinking of the people watching the show.
They tune in to a reality show about goths with all the cliché in there mind and get a sewing circle.

being out of goth clothing I'm thinking of where to take my new look and what to do.
I have a Versace belt buckle that I want to put on a black leather belt and then put pyramid studs on the belt.
A punk, trad goth belt with the designer buckle. Something like that.
I wonder how much a buckle like that sells for ? I could use the money.

KeineModalen 12-09-2015 01:05 PM

I think a punk and old school goth belt would be found at the thrift store for 0.25 cents. ;-)
