Top Ten Gothic Movies Thread
I got in a conversation about Gothic movies and noticed I had trouble thinking of what should count without getting too deep into the Vampire or Horror genres. What do you think the top ten (or any ten) actually Gothic movies are? Here is my stab at it, which I'm sure people will probably disagree with.
In no order
I can't think of any more right now. |
This should really go into the section specifically marked for TV and movies.
|
Harold and Maude? What?
|
Where's Blade Runner?
|
Blade Runner is a cyberpunk movie.... Pretty far off.
|
Hmm. . . I don't think I can think of 10, but here's my go at it:
The Crow Nightmare Before Christmas The Labyrinth (DO NOT DISAGREE WITH ME) Dracula Uh. Damn. I really don't know any, and I really only like one of the movies I listed (the others are mediocre). A thread about the same topic on RottenTomatoes lists some, but I don't feel like hunting them all down since they're spread throughout the discussion: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/vine/s...d.php?t=430830 |
Sweeney Todd? Really?
I've got..... Dracula [with Bela Lugosi] The Hunger The Nightmare Before Christmas The Lost Boys Erm. End ~B.L. |
Dracula (1933)
Frankenstien (1930s the Wolfman The Bride of frankenstien White Zombie The Labyrinth the Mummy (Karloff) Creature from the Black Lagoon King Kong |
Wait, how the fuck is Harold and Maude goth?
|
Having never heard of Dogs in Space before, I was wondering how that could also be considered goth. Then, I IMDBed it, and felt some relief. I was expecting something along the lines of Space Buddies, and that worried me.

Eraserhead
Nosferatu The Crow Interview with the Vampire Institute Benjementa A Tale of Two Sisters [Well...I think it was...] That's all I got. |

I'm a nerd, not a goth. classic monster movie counts for me!
|
Joe Dirt. Goth as all fuck.
|
Just wondering, what about Edward Scissorhands?
|
^ The movie's kinda shit aside from the visuals...
But then again, Nightmare Before Christmas has been mentioned, so why not. |
The Ninth Gate has a dark element to it. Sheitan as well.
|
Edward Scissorhand.
The Nightmeare Before Christmas. The Lost Boys. The Craft. Interview with a Vampire. Dracula. That's all I've got. |
Sleepy Hollow.
I want to say the Addams Family movies but I'm not sure. They keep the humor so in character that you kind of have to be goth to really appreciate it. But, even then, it's still so campy it's not really influential enough to make the top 10. |
Return Of The Living Dead

Why is everyone mentioning The Crow anyway?
Aside from that, I agree with Kontan. You could probably put Mad Max/Doomsday too. All the bad guys looks pretty damn Deathrock. And Siouxsie's on the soundtrack fro Doomsday. |
Didn't The Crow have The Cure on the soundtrack?
|
Yes, The Cure was on The Crow soundtrack. So was My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. Actually, wait, I may be getting that confused with Lost Boys. My head hurts and I'm too lazy to google it.
NO ONE MENTIONED GYPSY 83?! |

Spellbound by Siouxsie & The Banshees is on STRAIGHT after Adam & The Ants in the scene where Sol is doing his stage show crap.
Regardless of the soundtrack, The Crow SUCKED. |
