Beautiful languages

I'm not sure if this is the necessary place for this sort of topic, but you know, whatever.

What languages do you find the most beautiful?

I'm fond of French (of course), Portuguese, and German can be extremely pretty if spoken well. If you disagree, listen to Lacrimosa. I'm referring only to the way they sound, I only speak English and a small bit of German.

Methadrine 10-30-2007 02:50 PM

I find the english language the most beautiful actually. Both in writing and in speech.

honeythorn 10-30-2007 03:04 PM

Someone will probably kill me for this but....Finnish. I don't care who's speaking it, I die of joy when I hear it.

DepthsofSpace 10-30-2007 03:13 PM

Dutch/German and I agree on the Finish remark.

And French in a French-Canadian accent = <3

viscus 10-30-2007 03:35 PM

Any language can be beautiful if spoken or written by someone with a gift of eloquence. But personally, I'm a bit partial to Japanese, French, and Spanish.

Black&Blue 10-30-2007 03:45 PM

Italian. It's the most romantic-sounding language I can think of. I also like Hawaiian. It has a great flow to it.

Underwater Ophelia 10-30-2007 03:52 PM

French, definitely.

d.Nox 10-30-2007 05:27 PM

Second the German. I'm also partial to the way Sanskrit and classical Greek sound--in my head at least.

German and Japanese have always been my favorite languages. French is pretty cool too, and I'm roughly learning phrases in Latin.

Dancing_in_rain 11-01-2007 12:44 PM

This reminds me of a movie called "A Fish Called Wanda". In it, one of the main characters is intensely turned on whenever someone speaks to her in RUssian, Italian or any foreign language for that matter. V. Funny!

Tara Poison 11-01-2007 12:47 PM

Japanese and Italian.

anybody ever hear Die Eier Von Satan by Tool? It's funny, because it's in German, and it's really really industrial and creepy. It's made to sound like some sort of Satanic war-banter or something. But it's really just a recipe for deviled eggs.

Steppenwolf 11-02-2007 01:35 AM

German and Farsi

Nevan 11-02-2007 02:09 AM

I like Spanish and Italian most. Although any language really, spoken with eloquence and suavity, is beautiful.

dark_dragon_of_ice 11-02-2007 02:44 AM

German...but im a bit biast.

Crying_Crimson_Tears 11-02-2007 04:06 PM

I love French, Russian, and actually English.

Those are the most beautiful in my opinion. Especially Russian.

erotomaniac87 11-02-2007 04:17 PM

I find Italian and Spanish to be the two most beautiful languages (and the sexiest) in the world.

magickaykay 11-02-2007 04:32 PM

Well Im learning japanese now,and I think of it as a beautiful language. It's deep and complex, and theres alot of versitility to it.

Rorschach Twin 11-02-2007 08:09 PM

I'm actually a bit fond of true old english. (as in anglo saxon)

d.Nox 11-02-2007 09:56 PM

Hear hear! Especially when they get all alliterative in their poetry.

††BlackRose†† 11-03-2007 07:03 AM

I agree, Old English is really nice as well as French, German, Itallian, Finnish, and Spanish.

Are you serious??? That's too funny. I am going to have to check that out.

Stupot 11-04-2007 08:56 AM

I've learned a little Japanese having lived in Tokyo for 5 months and I'm hoping to go to Uni next year to learn it full time (joint with Linguistics if I get my way).

There's a neatness and a tidiness about Japanese that I find fascinating. Yeh It's my favourite. As for being beautiful... certainly in its written form.

Ha yes. It used to scare me, then I found out what it was actually saying. It's awesome.

that is the Lord's prayer in Old English. Very... eerie.. It sounds like you should be able to understand it.

Cyntrox 11-04-2007 11:08 AM

Latin! And old Norwegian. Around the viking era. Japanese is way overrated IMO. I also love Quenya, but I'm not sure if it counts. Finnish isn't bad either.

Oh, and I don't speak any of the above =/ But someday!
