Batman vs. Superman has Wonder Woman in it
And she'll be played by Gal Gadot. She looks awfully frail in her pictures. She does have a nice face though. Here's to hoping she hits the gym and packs on a few pounds of muscle. WW is a bruiser, not a frail delicate flower that's super ninja-y....
Gal Gadot? Really? o_0 First Ben Afleck and now this. Yo, this Batman vs. Superman movie is starting to make me feel a bit uncomfortable. DC... what are you doing? |
I was thinking the same thing after seeing pics of who Gal Gadot was. I thought Michelle Rodriguez would have been a better choice myself. While she's short, she's at least built and has a take no shit attitude.

I'm honestly starting to wish I never was a fan so I could stop caring. |
My GF and I have a thing for Harley Quinn. We adore the classic Harley design and are really bothered by the New 52 design which basically just makes her a sexy Hot Topic gothling. We're left thinking... yo, you got Catwoman and you got Poison Ivy. Does every female character in the DC universe have to be some titillating sex bombshell? Harley's clownish design was part of her charm, was what made her so attractive and likable in the first place. She was cute and funny and a real foil to the seriousness of the DC universe as opposed to the Joker who is now just a monster I guess. I dunno if I get it anymore.

I'm curious Saya, who would you pick if you had the chance to play Wonder Woman? Up until Affleck getting picked for the new version of Batman, I think they've been pretty good with selecting the right actors for main characters in the DC films so far. Granted, the films have been hit and miss, but I've found them all entertaining on their merits.

And DC's casting is okay if you don't mind that every character of colour gets magically turned white. |

Marvel has a lot going for it. There isn't particularly ONE super super popular superhero. They're all pretty unique and allowed to be fun. Deadpool's popularity shows that people don't want dark gritty noirs all the fucking time, for example. Superman Returns and Green Lanterns were bombs, and the success of the Batman films makes DC think that Batman is all we want. And with or without Wonder Woman, its why I have low expectations. Batman and Superman's dynamic in World's Finest worked because they were opposites, now that they're both dark edgy and angsty, how does it work? |

But regarding your attitude on DC for people of color to non-color, I have to politely disagree since I thought Laurence Fishburne brought an angle to Perry White that hasn't been conceived properly yet. In the old films he was a hard ass who apparently hadn't seen or done anything while in the latest film he seemed to have seen stuff that would make Ms. Lane and Mr. Clark wet their beds in fright. (But that's my opinion, I could be wrong). Plus there were the numerous characters in the "Green Lantern" film. Hell, Thomas Kalmaku called Hal Jordan out on his own unoriginality at one point, ("A race car track? Really Hal?") plus Dr. Amanda Waller who was the head of the extraterrestrial project that studied Hammond. Sadly, the Batman films don't make this cut. While I think Liam Neeson was awesome as Ra's al Ghul because he had the proper mentality, I couldn't help but think during the first time I watched "Batman Begins" that "I thought Ra's al Ghul was an Arab or North African? What's missing here?" |
I actually haven't seen Man of Steel yet (I heard mixed things, especially about how Superman's optimism was gone so I was like eh). I think having Hal as the Green Lantern was a very poor choice; who likes Hal? Why not go with Jon Stewart, who many Green Lantern fans not only love but grew up with? If a JL movie is endgame, its looking to be an all while dude party with maybe Wonder Woman.
See, I could MAYBE forgive Batman for only whitewashing one; Ra's was kind of a racist stereotype in origin anyway. But Talia could still have been half Chinese, Bane could have been Latino, and Catwoman could have been black or Latina or both, she hasn't been white in the comics since like the eighties (canonically I mean, many artists whitewash her and Talia both). Perry was the only one actually racebent towards a person of Colour. Overwhelmingly when the race is changed, its changed to make the character white. And while I'm sure the actress is lovely, Amanda Waller is "The Wall." She's supposed to be a pretty big woman. |
And that's something that's bothered me as well. I'm waiting to see if it was just Nolan and his weirdness about white washing all the ethnic characters in the Batman movies.
Man of Steel was good. He was positive in some ways but the movie was about Superman cutting his teeth more than him being established and confident. To be honest, it was pretty awesome. |
I blame DC for that, since they've rebooted the universe things have been a little off. As a longtime fan, there's moments when I'm beyond disappointed with who they put in the film for characters we all know and love/hate.
But who's to say who all of the members of Justice League will be? So far it's Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, maybe Green Lantern. For all we know they could throw in Martian Manhunter or Cyborg as the sixth team member rather than Aquaman. |
See that flicker of warmth that you feel in your chest? That's called hope. I want you to smother that shit before it grows and the media burns you.
Wonder Woman's safety will be a plot device or her presence will be there to show how bad ass Batman is by contrast. There. I said it. |
I'll be surprised if they do Cyborg just cause he was a Teen Titan first and I don't know if they'd want to change that continuity (New 52 did but Warner Brothers seems to be sticking to the old universe....at least I hope and pray they are).
|
That really wouldn't surprise me if they didn't put Cyborg in. One can always dream. :/
|
Well, on one hand I really hope they do, but on the other hand I think they'd be playing all their cards, you know? Teen Titans was very popular and if JL goes ahead and is a hit, it would make sense to do a Teen Titans movie down the road.
They could make up for it by racebending some other superheroes or having another hero of colour as a founding member, like Vixen, but I wouldn't hold my breath. |
I loved Static Shock as a kid and would love seeing him on the big screen. Of, course that possibilty is extremely small.
I would love teen titans as well, but i think they'd fuck it up. Badly. |
So they're making a Flash TV show, and the casting call for Iris West and her family calls for African Americans. Which is cool in and of itself, but that would mean if Wally West shows up and becomes Kid Flash, there's one more PoC superhero.

I do not like the punching hero movies!
' I do not like them at all |
wonderwoman was perfectly awesome in Batwoman (comic). No caste suggestions though.
I probably won't be watching this. |
