Personally, I don't find it necessary to 'not give a shit' about things I like just because they have become a current fad. I tend to lose interest and, yes, disassociate but forgetting all about it entirely would usually be my last and final resort. Oftentimes, it's better to just watch and wait until the hype dies down and people rave over a new 'trend'. They almost always do, anyway.
