Interviews

Ian Boddy - DiN
A veteran of the European electronic music scene since the late 70s, UK based sonic explorer Ian Boddy has produced 13 CDs on his Something Else Records label. Emerging from the post TDream generation, Boddy has carved out a distinctive position as an independent composer and performer.

Reviews

Wentworth Kersey - (O)
Loosely described as an americana EP, "(O)" is the latest release by Wentworth Kersey, a duo from Denver, Colorado in the USA, and who have a sound that is like shoegazer, post rock, americana... And utterly gorgeous it is too!

Millipede - All My Best Intentions
This is the first release of Porteur de L'image's Don Hill's side project, Millipede. Don has been creating music for over 10 years and now has found a home for this magnificent project on Hymen Records. The auditory terrain of Millipede is an uneasy landscape of glitch-ridden drums, ambient pads and thick lows, ethereal melodies and symphonic cascades carrying the listener away.

Skin Contact - Antitrust
Dark electronic break-beat is what you can expect from this little gem of a release from Skin Contact titled "Antitrust". Simply complex, or complexity disguised as simplicity; those were my thoughts as I put my headphones on, turned up the volume, and begun listening. The entire album gives itself to easy listening with a few minor flaws.

Tzii - Rotten Friendship
The works of Tzii form the basis for a dual CD-R/DVD-R release, coming in an intriguingly beautiful, handcrafted silkscreen packaging with a limited run of 300 copies. An easy recommendation to anyone intrigued by finecrafted aural and visual displays of dark themes, be it an audience uninitiated to the original tracks, or one seeking something new yet (un)comfortably familiar.

V/A - Miwak 12
All in all this compilation offers us a very wide selection of what Hymen Records has to offer. The broad range of the tracks makes for a varied listening experience but, with repeated listens, one may I tend to skip a few tracks in order to stay in one vibe. "Miwak 12" clearly shows that Hymen is at the top of their game and still has plenty of quality electronic music for us in store.

Roughhausen - Someone's Got To Pay
Roughhausen produce a great EP but the contribution of live and remix tracks will always detour new listeners. I suggest this album as a taste for any new listener who enjoys My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Velvet Acid Christ or KMFDM. You will not be disappointed with this short bare-knuckle brawl of EBM and industrial.

Brian E - Yellow Light District
Inspired by living legends of electronic music such as Giorgio Moroder and Kraftwerk as well as by the Italo Disco era, Brian E delivers us an uninterrupted stream of catchy melodies, purring bass lines, and poppy analog synthesizer sounds which were the trademark of the 70's greater masterpieces of the genre, of whom Brian E is the heir.

Low Technicians - Riga
This electropop outfit from Austin, Texas, claims as its focus a melodic melding of pop and rock, via the medium of electronic dance music. A suitably generic categorization, in any case, for an album consisting of repetitive synthpop standards with mediocre vocals and a splash of guitar for texture.
