Hmmm a valid point. I always saw it as a way of giving some kind of reference as to what Voltaire had achieved in the 'gothic' industry to the viewers who were ignorant of 'what is Goth' but Its still subtle advertising I suppose.
Then again, if they hadn't mentioned his book then it could easily have come across as "And here's Voltaire who is dressed in black and has black hair, lets ask him a few questions".
