As for fabric paint, the brands I use probably aren't sold in the US so just look out for one that's fairly thick but not clumpy and make sure you iron it after it dries so it's less likely to flake. Bleach would work too as Jack suggested, but do a test on the fabric first to make sure it doesn't turn any unsightly shades of orange or brown. And if it all turns out good post pictures of the result to keep the DIY thread alive =]
