I watched a Doctor Who episode the other day where people were communicating with these radios on their space-suits that were wired into the nervous system somehow. When people died, the communication device held a portion of their personality for a few minutes. It wasn't the whole person, but just enough of them for this voice to come out saying things like "Help me!" and "Why can't I see anything?". The characters in the show called it "ghosting".
It didn't have much to do with anything else in the story except that a number of people died, but it was well done and very creepy!

As the poets have mournfully sung,
death takes the innocent young,
the rolling in money,
the screamingly funny,
