Final Clarification

So, if i don't listen to any classic goth rock, industrial, post-punk, etc, then i really have no business here? I'm fine with that, btw, but i'm just making sure

This is going to get flamed. I'm also fine with that.

Well, I'm not sure what other people will think, but I personally have no issue with your posting here.
That said, the fact remains that most folks, I among them, do feel that, presently, the goth subculture is intrinsically linked to gothic rock, so you can't really claim to be a 'goth' in the traditional sense if you don't listen to the music.

Do you want to learn about the music? If you don't that's okay, but you might like it.

I don't have a problem with you posting either.

Who said that? If there's someone specific that told you that, it's going to be him who will probably get flamed.

Of course, i'd like to learn, and i'm in the process, but i was under the impression that to really function here you'd need a working knowledge of all the classic goth music and such. I've been listening to some Souxsie, and doing some research, because that's how i do, but even so.

If you want to learn about music, May I reccomend the band "Sisters of Mercy" and the album "Floodland".

I have been kicking around here for what, a year or something. And I couldn't distinguish gothic music from a plank of wood. Not that I wouldn't listen to it, if it happened across my path. I wouldn't worry.

Personally, I don't mind you posting. You seem competent and polite. The only things that bug me are people who present certain music as goth when it isn't, glorify some negative and/or bogus goth stereotype, or just act childish.

If you want to learn more about goth music, there is a pretty good primer in the music forum: https://www.gothic.net/boards/showthread.php?t=5866
I might write a new one that's tighter and more informative if I find the time.

Don't worry about it, dude. I think you should give goth rock a listen though. Not because you won't be "goth" if you don't but because I've found so much to enjoy in it. I try not to label people, but like a lot of people on this site, I get ranty if someone mislabels the music.

If you're not a goth, then you're not a goth, but saying you don't belong in here because of that is like saying only Guatemalans have any business being in Guatemala.

Graveyard m'dear, I love you dearly, but about a quarter of the conversation is music nazi worthy. Goth versus punk versus rivet versus industrial....

All the same, I'm a folkie m'self. Don't really care for goth/gothic music. Love the literature.

Well, I guess then I should have said I AM not a music nazi. If no one else, me and molly will talk to you, even if you worship Britney Spears. Honestly.

My question is, why not? I have friends who are excited about the Spice girls coming to town, and we get along A OK.
Like I said before, or I'm sure said before, I'm extremely open minded, and music doesn't even begin to challenge that.

The Spice Girls and goth aren't as divorced as one might think. Why, just the other day, a gentleman referred to my platforms as 'Spice Girls shoes'.

Music isn't everything. You might get a little lost in the music forum if you don't listen to any post-punk/goth rock etc, but there are several other avenues to post in. Please stay, we won't be bitchs just because you aren't the same as us. Haha, how hypocritical would that be?

I really don't see the big deal about being ok with someone who likes a pop singer. This really isn't the limit of my open mindedness, this barely even constitutes as proof of my open mind.
