Mice are the spawn of the (nonexistent) devil.
We've had this mouse infestation all summer, and I can't for the life of me figure out where they're getting in and for some reason they love my room.
They're active all hours of the night and day and it's driving me out of my mind.
And whoever said mice are quiet seriously need to get their head examined, because it's bullshit. Mice are NOT quiet and I can hear them two rooms down. There's this incessant nibbling sound coming from right under my TV and from the wall right near my bed. I've been up for the better part of three nights straight because of these god damn mice. And when I DO get to dozing off, I'm startled out of a dead sleep by a sudden loud thump.
It's not like I'm not doing anything either. My room is for the most part kept clean, and I clean up after myself on the odd occasion I use the kitchen. My parents are completely slovenly and they leave food everywhere. We've tried rat poison and two or three different kinds of traps. The downside here is how picky I am about the traps we use.

How about the kind that don't kill the creatures who are only trying to survive you fuckhead?

Cat piss. Or wolf piss. Hell, the piss of any common predator.
You don't need much, certainly not enough that you can smell it. But dab it around. The mice will smell it, and it will tell them that there's something that want to eat them hanging around. It will help decrease your problem.

You are picky about the traps you use, yet have no qualms about putting out rat poison, which is designed to dehydrate them and is a slow, painful death?

I'm avoiding glue traps like the plague.
And don't give me your animal cruelty spiel.

I'll look into it.
I still haven't figured out where they get in at.

It doesn't necessarily have to be at where they come in. They can usually smell something from a distance, so if you leave vials around the house at regular intervals it should work.
Also, if you have a garden, some zoos sell manure from their predatory animals (tigers, lions, etc.) which also have a smell that distinctive to animals trying to avoid predators. You can use it to fertilize your plants and keep the pests away simulataneously.

My mouse used to be really quiet, once I replaced her wheel, but now she's taken to rearranging the furniture in her cage in the middle of the night. Or maybe she's building something.
Get an ultrasonic mouse repellent, thats how mom got rid of her mice. It sends out a sound that is too high pitched for humans to hear but it drives rodents away. Get one with a dial though, eventually they can get used to a frequency and might come back, so you ought to change it every so often.

As others have already pointed out there are ways to get rid of the mice without killing them, plus those ways are more effective than setting up traps which only kill a small portion of the mouse population and do nothing about the rest.

And your problem is INSIDE, so how are the cat's meant to do their job? My cats hunt together. It's a pussy tag team.

Pfft. Just piss inside yourself. If that doesn't work then it's still funny to do.

I can actually hear some frequencies on the Ultrasonic repellents. It gives you a headache after about 30 seconds of it. We had one designed for pine-martins.

I can't catch them fast enough. They're sort of people-shy.

Logic dictates that the spawn of a non-existent devil must themselves be non-existent. I wouldn't worry too much about the ensuing non-existent infestation.

Are you quite sure that they are mice and not rats? If they are rats then chances are the cats wont do much, even if you force them inside, either way I do highly recommend the ultrasonic devices as they are highly effective and humane, if you find that you can hear all of the frequencies and that they bother you more than the mice then just return it.

I'm definitely sure they're mice. I've seen them.

Well good, then stop with the rat poison and get some ultrasonic mice repellent and that should do the trick (don't worry if you have dogs/cats/whatever they are designed so that they are only heard by rodents).

In my last place of residence the ultrasonic thing didn't work because of the wiring. I don't know about this place's wiring though, so I'll give it a shot.

The wiring shouldn't matter for the ultrasonics as they emit sound waves directly from the device and don't work through the wires. There are similar electronic devices that work through electromagnetic pulses, maybe that is what gave you problems.

Rats are worse than mice, but mice aren't nice. [Heh heh.]
If food and trash are left out constantly, then there's not much you can do to keep them out. [Trust me, I know.]
The best idea I can think of is to clean the house and/or hire an exterminator.

I might look into the ultrasonic mice repellant for my family's holiday house. We were trying to clear them out last time we were there but we're really not into killing them needlessly and our cats at home wouldn't be able to handle the long drive down. Having found a nest of babies all we could do was play with them, enjoy the cuteness overload, then find them a safe new nest spot under the house.... from which they'll no doubt just migrate back inside.
So the ultrasonic thing sounds fantastic.
