Wow....my mom hung the bird cages outside and the little lemon-lime birdie got away...*sigh*. Wonder what to do now.

Yeah, its been living very well, so I assume as long as it doesn't get killed by other birds.

Aww. Well, I guess it is better to die in flight than to live on a - a... on a perch? Or... something... *pulls out hip flask and swigs copiously in attempt to make this post seem coherent*

Actually, if love-birds are not natural in your climate, releasing them would mean death. Even then, most domesticated animals have no idea how to survive on their own.
I can't own any pets either, because it is like their whole life is taken from them for the small enjoyment of looking at them everyday. An animal needs a pack. They also need to have their own offspring. Maybe they aren't the alpha and endure some misery, but their life would just be so much better.
My parents own a dog. I do what I can, like pat her on the her to let her know I see her. That's how animals say hello. She'll never have puppies or battle other dogs for superiority. She can't talk, open the door, drive or anything else. She can protect the house. Seems like taking a lot in exchange for food and shelter.

That's exactly what I love about cats. They can come and go as they please and live a kind of "natural" life, complete with all the perks of being a pet. I don't feel cruel keeping cats, like I sometimes did with my hamster when I was little (similar thing to Dagon's opening post - I used to look at the tiny cage and feel like a horrible bitch. Course, he slept for about twenty hours a day, so it wasn't AS bad). Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily think it's wrong to keep animals as pets - especially if they're well-looked after - but I like the fact that when my cat comes and curls up on my tummy at night he's been god knows where getting up to all sorts all day, not shut in the house waiting for someone to come home so he can have some company.

It's odd, I only came across this thread today and one of my more hated Gnetters is in fact a bird person too. I used to have 16 budgies but I accidentally set them free and cried, I also had two canaries, and two cockatiels.
My canaries died in a freak nail clipping accident, one of my cockatiels hung itself (Literally) and my other cockatiel died recently from starvation, poor little guy.
How depressing.

So he's grown up? Well, in that case, I welcome him with open alien hands... No, I'm not going to strangle him

Yes, I would say I have grown up a lot. In many different ways.
Physically, I am more developed now, I am a year older, and now I feel unlike that much of a kid anymore. I guess my law classes did that to me, but it feels awesome.
As for the threads prior to this one, thanks.
