I don't know what you're talking about with your art not measuring up to other peoples. Besides being freaking awesome, all art is it's own interpretation from the artist's mind, so all art is good, just different in ways where some might fancy one piece, and others might fancy a different style piece. I personally like the moody angel piece and the love piece you drew as well as Metatron sketches. It must be because a lot of my pieces are dark and moody as well, so that is the style I study and enjoy from other people.

Thanks Korova. Your art has a structured feel to it. It seems as if every line and smudge and shadow was thought out beforehand and meant to be where it is. Mine look kind of thrown together. That's what I meant by not being able to compare I usually like to create brightly colored, almost old skool art for tattoos, and black and grey art strictly for drawing pleasure. One of my favorite ways to draw is with a cheap black Bic pen.

Yes, that's very good.
We're a lucky generation. Art has come back in a really big way since 1990. There are a lot of famous and amazing contemporary artists living today.
Our generation and the one previous to ours are going down in the history books.

I have no idea what it takes to be a successful abstract artist. I'd be interested in hearing what drives this kind of art. Is this a display of emotion like a visual poem? Is it an aesthetically pleasing crush of shapes who's purpose it is to be something new and elicit new feelings?
The difficult part is that I can't ask this kind of question without seeming like a smart-ass, but, for what it's worth, I really am curious and would like to know.
Hooray!

My doodles are massively different from my "real" art, but sometimes they turn out quite cool.

Hi Art Thread... long time no see.
I've recently been able to upload most of one of my sketchbooks to my deviantart account ( http://quietlytea.deviantart.com ), and I'm super happy, and super-eager to hear other peoples' opinions. Here's one of the recently uploaded sketches that my friends at home really liked:

As an artist I'm trained to know how to decifer abstract art. But I never thought I'd be asked to define it. There are so very many many things I could say to try and define it and they'd all be correct, but way too long and drawn out.
Let me brainstorm this tomorrow and Tuesday and I'll try to give you the most accurate explanation. But as far as the short, short version goes... It's basically a translation from the artists mind of feelings, emotions, stories, even things like mathematically (or philosophically and culturally) related themes (which are very impressive when the artist explains a piece like this to you), and the subject matter can be objective or non-objective. There's your nutshell. I'll do some work, and try to give you a definition, but I'm not very good with words, so we'll see...

My first art post!

My first post on the art thread. I am an art major, so please don't dash my dreams.
This is a drypoint intaglio print of Xnguela's feet/legs. Hope you enjoy.

And this is the lucky vampiress bitch who gets to have her hotness tattooed somewhere on my nekked skin. I drew her from various character and physical descriptions from the book "Bloodsucking Fiends"
Her name is Jody, she has red hair, green eyes, alabaster skin and a thirst for blood

sensuous0mar I really liked that vampiress one. & the one in charcoal by Blushing Heliophobe was lovely.
In a desperate bid to prevent paper crumpling I had to use colouring pencils...I hate colouring pencils...

The picture I have is too pig, so I'll post a thumbnail and pic:
http://www.deviantart.com/view/24216575/
This one hopefully aren't too wide for your screens:
New Zealand, beautiful scenary.
And a banner I threw together:
I'm trying to get the link to a video I made with a 3D rendition of a complex robot model I made [the robot isn't animated...didn't have time to add bones or move them, only model the robot and have a camera movement movie]
Comments or critique appreciated, but I will get them much, much easier if they are done on deviantARt, thanks!
By the way, does anythign else think we should have an ARTS forum? Considering there's a literature and spam section,.

Thank you, Meta.
