It looks like this has been asked for a long time, but not addressed. There are some members whom I would prefer to make conversation with outside the forum area, and I will not post my e-maill address for all to see.

TAKE THREE:
Seriously- the PM's have been disabled for quite some time with no explanation. Why not get rid of them completely instead of just leaving them there... taunting us....

Bingo. You got us. We just wanted to make you (more) nutty.
No, but seriously... They were deactivated due to abuse, both by bots and otherwise. It has always been the plan to reactivate them, but additional features development on G.net has been slower than originally anticipated and we need to put some protections in place for the PM's so people are not driven crazy with things they shouldn't be getting and such.

i was told that the forum administrators cannot take any positive criticism dished out their way, but I'll try anyway.
You SUCK!
Go on then, ban me. I dare you.

The calendar is still showing last year's December.

Uhm, how do you justify that as positive criticism?

So, all Lost and Crazy wants is, basically, his(?) posts removed? Why not remove them? If you can remove the posts of others easily, why not press an enter key for him?
What do you have to say to get deleted, then>?

I wouldn't advise him to go too far, whatever the case. Can't admins ban the IP address as well as the user if they get too out of hand?
I don't know about such things from the administrative end, but I've seen cases in other forums where people have gone so far as to post highly offensive/illegal matter just to get their account deleted, and later on are contacted by the authorities.
That's a good idea. Put an "opt-out"/"cancel account" option in the User CP.

Why not just ban and delete LostandCrazy and end the fracas? It takes more energy to respond to his(?) posts than it would to simply let him go.
I don't see why there isn't a delete or edit function to posts for more than 5 minutes. Makes for awkward posting if connections get glitchy and also for flaming if a typo is not corrected.
I know you believe in the "author should stand by their posts..." etc., but many of us apparently believe that we should be able to edit and delete our posts as necessary to remain accurate or just gone.

Cool! There's a new button! I like the "quick" button. It doesn't seem to be operating yet, but when it is, I assume it'll just send the quoted text down to the "post quick reply" section...?
Very neat and convenient.

I think you've just answered your own question.
People should think about what they are posting and they shouldn't edit their posts to suit themselve in the event of some sort of flamewar nonsense or whatever. Maybe they should even be responsible and mature enough to try to avoid situations where they wouldn't want to be held accountable for what they said later.
I really don't mind expending the time and energy it takes to ask someone how they justify 'you suck' as positive criticism though. I really do want to know.

Yes, they most certainly can. Of course, there are a number of proxy servers on the miraculous interweb.

Was that always there and I'm just unobservant? The more I think about it, the more I think that's the case.

I'm trying to piss you off enough for you to just do it. I guess it did'nt work, did it? So what does it take? Can my being a Nokia Salesman or a porn freak tip the scales? And no, this has nothing to do with flamewars or other such nonsense. I want my fucking poetry deleted. That is all I want. They are not comments or statements. They are my property and I want them off of here. I really cannot understand why that is such an issue.

They are not your property, you should really read up on DMC Act. They are yours, but you freely posted them when you did you gave up your right on wether to remove them or not, its up to the gnet admins. I have to agree with the admins on this one.

Where can I find this "DMC act"? In any case, I implore the Admins to help me out here. It is not a big deal. I have been asking nicely enough for months now.

Its the Digital Millennium Copyright Act which states that you do own the work you posted but at the same time you freely posted it, and you did so with out being forced witch means that once you hit post that post became property of gnet.
But yeah i don't think the admins should delete anything just cause someone asked them too, now if its something bad thats another case but in this case i say just leave it be.

Just curious- as I see some whose posts have been deleted-ish but their stamps are still seen- what does it take then to get not only banned (I am assuming banned) but deleted as well?

Well, partly it depends on who is doing the moderation. We've had different moderators, some more harsh than others. The ones that were a little farther down on the harsh-o-meter seemed to get a number of people here all agitated. So, we backed up a little bit on the strict approach and I think we've been trying to be pretty reasonable and flexible. When people's posts have been removed, some others were unhappy. People who had participated in conversations and people that had given well thought out feedback on things like poetry or whatever were justifiably less than thrilled to have portions of what they participated in just removed. Putting certain profiles on global ignore was just an expedient way to remove current problematic posts, but ultimately it wasn't the right approach. Generally speaking, the problematic post should be addressed, not the poster.
Personally, I don't see what is so wrong for someone to have posted their poetry for people to give feedback on, but it's selfish to then remove the work after you are done getting advice, just so you can pretend it's never been published anywhere.

Any chance you want to make the Picture Post thread a sticky again?
