safety pin wings
i just made wings from safety pins on the back of my leather jacket. it took about 200-250 pins. they (the pins), in varying sizes, make the feathers. it looks amazing... though its hard to explain. perhaps i will post a photo...? i think someone on here might be into this sort of spooky arts and crafts and might like to try it as well.

Thanks, but yeh it's more messy in real life. Partly because I decided to try to use an airbrush for the first time and it lifted the stencil a little so theres a very light black spray over some of the white parts.
Yours is nice and neat!

That sounds pretty cool actually. You need a higher post count before you can post links though.

Thanks. It's neat 'cos I used enamel paint.
But the proportions aren't right and there isn't so much detailll.
How's using an airbrush?
Ragamuffin - That sounds wicked.
Post more so we can see a photo?

Well I wasn't used to having the force of the gas trying to lift the stencil so that was a problem. I think if you were painting a big area that had a fairly simple shape, then you could put double sided tape around the edges and it wouldn't lift. Or you could just hold it down by hand like I did and paint yourself a bit.
It's probably not worth it for small things because it takes time to mix the paint to the right consistancy for the airbrush plus you waste more paint (and gas). But it makes large areas VERY quick to finish. The borders of mine barely took any time to do. And if you paint something without a stencil you get the soft edges from an airbrush.

Links I think is low, maybe 30 posts? A signature and PM's is like 500 or something though.
Sorry what's your username on photobucket? Ragamuffin? I can't see it on there.

Cool, Ragamuffin. How long did it take you to do that?

it definitely took a couple of hours. maybe even three... i was in that weirdo zen cracked-out otherwordly state after concentrating on it for so long. you know the one. it was worth it though. i only wish i would have used higher quality safety pins, but i could only find big packs of them in chinatown. and they were cheap. in every sense.

How did you plan out the pattern? Trial and error, or did you have it set before you started jabbing the pins?

I did a vest last night instead of going to sleep.
It turned out fairly well.
Acrylic paint on cotton.
CINEMA STRANGE
It's not perfect but I like it.
Still need a picture of my Einsturzende Neubauten jacket, might add more stuff first though.

Yer it was.
I wanna put something on the back but I'm not sure what...
Think I'mma go over the front as well.
The problem is it's thin and a vest.
And it's frickin' freezing this time of year.

I didn't make a hole. I used super glue. It probably won't hold up as long, but I can always re-glue it.

Aaah.
Niice.
I'm tempted to make a wire cage for mine.
Where'd you get yours?
On another point my back and hand's killing from writing out the whole of Nightgaunts onto my boot.
I still need to paint the side panel of the other red.
But the paint won't go nicely on the ankle area.
Any tips?
