I'm inclined to agree that cutting this nutcase loose is the best course of action. However, I would however suggest that you refer him to some form of psychiatric help before you sever ties completely. If he claims he's going to do something stupid, tell him to go see a counsellor or get some other form of proffessional help. There's nothing more you can do for him, you've considered that he might have actual problems (and isn't just an idiot although I'm not ruling that out) and thus you are in no way responsible for him or anything he does. Then hang up.

Hey, experience talking here. Manipulative psycho people who call you at 3 in the morning and threaten to commit suicide if you don't talk to them ... well, they never go get psychiatric help because you say "You should get some help."

It just doesn't work that way. They take you saying that as a cue that you care and want to help them, and they keep calling YOU back. So then YOU'RE fucked.

So all the people here who are suggesting nice ways of trying to help this psycho fucker ... they just don't have a clue.

That situation with your friend was completely different ... because she was rational, eh? Since the person who wrote this thread made it clear the person they were dealing with was irrational, crazy and a bit psychotic.

So you can see how that's not at all like your situation with your friend.

You know he might be an auditory person. I remember all the shows citing someone who talks to themselves must be schitzo, so I'd ramble on about things with mainly friends. Of course, still working through my thoughts so fairly wishy-washy and then they would go behind my back or someone listening in on the conversation would use it against me later. It was aweful.

See if there is a way to test if he's an auditory learner. If he is, he can get a tape recorder to move over to talking to himself privately. Sounds like there is bottled up stress and he doesn't have the coping skills.

Unless you are a trained counselor, therapist or psychiatrist, you don't have any business suggesting such lame ass pointers. And if you were one of those people, you would not be telling this person how to assist the psycho (or "auditory learner" as you put it.) That's just not a job for a layman to attempt. Period.

I haven't talked to him since this whole incident but a mutual friend says that he is fine now. He's tried to call me but I just ignore him.
