I would agree with you about the music not being related to the writings of EAP unless it is known that said music is blatantly inspired by it.

Actually, I never found EAP or Shakespear to ever really be gothic in the least. I simply found them to be goth friendly.

But whatever. I'm agreeing with you, so this post is probably pointless.

1. Some may take inspiration from him

2. You have no proof that anyone here will fade from goth into adulthood. Neither do I. Standstill.

Just to add to this, Why are you creating a stir about the forum members here. Of corse there are some people here who will fade out, but seriously, way to generalize.

I guess to sum it all up, your oppinion is yours and it may strike a revilation in the hearts of some and it may mean shit to others. I won't get caught up in this because you've made points that I can't argue against so why bother? It'll be as simple as it was with Bloopie, etc.

See, that's the thing that proves it is mostly about music.
We share musical tastes, we share fashion tastes (although we differ more on those), and we might share artistic and literary tastes (but in a very broad sense).
But it's only these tastes which unite us.
Other than that, we're nothing but normal people.
Other things, such as uncommon shared interests, a higher than average intelligence, a love for reading, new-found beauty and ways to enjoy dark things... are nothing but characteristics that are bound to happen within a closed community.

I listen to a little bit of everything.
From Pink Floyd and The beatles, to Nightwish and Leave's eyes. Metallica and Megadeth to Cinema strange and Switchblade Symphony; Siouxsie and the Banshees, The cure and Virgin Prunes to Angtoria and Jack off Jill. Some Korn, Cruxshadows, some Children of Bodom, some Nirvana and hole; A little bit of bare naked ladies and Tenacious D, and of course some Japanese Malice Mizer and Moi dix Mois... and then there's like another shit load in between! I just like music =]
Oh and I love musicals and orchestral music of any kind!

Not only do I, a middle aged old fart, still listen to Siouxsie and Rozz and the rest, but there are NEW bands forming, the new generation are playing new songs written in a goth rock, and Death rock style. They innovate while preserving the genre. But they also deviate and merge new styles into goth too.

I hear it every weekend. I am in awe of today's youth.

Where do I even begin? Gothic rock might house most of my 'favourite' bands but it barely scratches the surface of my musical tastes.

Off the top of m head: Red Hot Chilli Peppers, AFI, Hole, Placebo, Silverchair, the Distillers, Rancid, the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks, Sinead O'Connor, Eurythmics, Simple Minds, Enya, and I've always had a soft spot for trance and house music (Ministry of Sound, Gatecrasher, etc... DJ Tiesto is one of my favourites).

If all goffik types listened to ONLY gothic rock with no exceptions we'd all be living in a rather boring little world.

And on a side note, that 'Extraordinary' person is seriously mistaken.

True. Why would I limit myself to only listening to Gothic music? Just so I could call myself goth? I'd be a poser then, wouldn't I?

Ah, that reminds me... I really love Azeri dance music. It's like a fusion of traditional Azeri and electronica.

I'm noticing a lot of people saying they like showtunes here. i don't really like most of the popularmusicals, but i love cabaret, nbc, sweeney todd, all those. i have cabaret on my ipod. but back on topic...

I like arcade fire, neutral milk hotel, the white stripes and a shitload of other random indie bands. i actually don't listen to much gothic music, it's hard to get access to bands like that since i don't have the internet at home, and the closest thing to goth in the mainstream is MCR and hawethorne heights.

Well, I listen to ALL kinds of stuff...but I guess if I had to pick the "most un-goth" stuff, it would have to be oi! I love the 4-skins, Cocksparrer, the Business, Templars, Those Unknown, etc...

But I also listen to a lot of streep punk, crust, and oldschool hardcore, and also reggae and ska. None of those are anywhere close to "goth music".

I've been a huge fan of Tori Amos for years. I've also been listening to Dolores O'Riordan lately (I used to like the Cranberries back when I was in high school). I also listen to a lot of electronic stuff and some metal as well.

I try to be (somewhat) open-minded in terms of my music collection. I have always been a fan of rock music, and will basically listen to any variation of it. In my opinion, that's a part of being Gothic; many musicians don't just take their influences from one sector. Just as many writers don't just write in one style.
