I have a friend who, despite his intelligence and capacity for retaining knowledge with very little exposure, he also has the capacity for extreme self-delusion.
I was speaking to him about muscles (connected to his PE coursework) and it ended up with him claiming that there are no muscles in the fore-arm, citing various books that conveniently, weren't available at the time.
The next day at school I showed him a couple of bits of evidence that proved me right,
He then tells me I'm sad for going to that effort.
This coming from a person who will happily research a topic to the nth degree to prove that he is right no matter how petty it was.
The fact that I was only trying to give him a hand with his PE coursework and correct him on one minor thing made his statement reeaallly annoying to me.
There are a thousand things about this guy that piss me off, some fairly, some less so.
And because this is the Rant thread, I'm going to rant.
Possibly incoherently...
-He has a pre-planned argument for everything, and can argue a point better than most people I know, however ridiculous or incorrect the initial point is.
- Assumes that just because I can't site a thousand sources for every point, my points are invalid and therefore his are better, he is better and he is right.
- Constantly takes the piss out of my being an Atheist, in various ways, ranging from laughing that I don't believe in an afterlife to doubting that I really don't believe in God.
- Doesn't believe I truly like goth rock, or the movies I like, and that I am doing it merely because it's what goths are "meant" to do.
- Every time someone mentions christianity in a less than favourable light, he uses is like someone might use the "race card," despite the fact that he freely mocks Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Atheists etc etc.
- He has very right wing views,occasionally bordering on fascist, and makes stupid jokes about how he "hated all Arabs before it was cool." I don't know how serious he is with it, but he does have some pretty stupid racial prejudices. Plus he says I'm one of his best friends, despite my being half Maltese, and therefore having a reasonable amount of Arab blood in me.
- He relentlessly takes the piss out of all the "alternative" types behind their backs, despite claiming to be friends with most of us. He doesn't believe people can truly like any metal, goth, punk etc etc and says that we're all just listening to it because we're told to.
And the most recent, and most raw one:
- He started going out with the girl I've liked a lot for several months, knowing how much I liked her, and didn't tell me for two weeks. When he did tell me it was only because I prompted him after seeing them together.
I just about refrained from hitting him, and only because I abhor violence as anything than an absolute last resort.
Over the next few times I spoke to him he would go on about how well it was all going etc etc.
AND THEN EXPRESSED SINCERE INDIGNATION WHEN I TOLD HIM TO SHUT UP BEFORE I LOST IT, AND TELLS ME IT'S NOTHING SERIOUS.
He now seems to think everything's healed, that I'm "cool" with everything, and that it's all like it was.
I'm going along with it all as best I can at the moment, because I detest violence, and I don't do anger well, either I do nothing or I completely and utterly lose it, and I don't want to risk getting kicked out of school over my GCSEs.
I think I'm done for now...
