My mom was a chef turned nutritionist so not only did she teach me to cook she was a harpy about what you should and should not have.
Last night I cooked gyoza, ton katsu, and miso fried rice. it's only 11:19am right now so haven't had anything yet cause well honestly I am wayyyy too lazy right now to want to cook anything.

I've never made gyoza, I should give it a try sometime.

Friend of mine left me a large supply of popsicles. I have eaten perhaps one a minute for half an hour.

For dinner tonight: red quinoa with dried cranberries, baked salmon with olive oil and sea salt, and a mixed green salad with homemade (ACV, agave nectar, and flax oil) vinaigrette.

Eating chocolate chip toaster waffles for breakfast.
See when left by themselves even women will eat "bachelor food"

Its because when you realize your mom isn't around to tell you that its wrong, you can have cake for breakfast. I think xkcd had a graph about the decline of health when you realize this.

I just looked it up.
But I also learned that cattail is edible. I'm not sure I'd eat that, I'd end up getting the down in my teeth.

You don't want to know what briefly ran through my mind there.

Well some people will eat the strangest things.
A friend of mine had a snake and he'd milk the snake and either inject or injest the venom to build up a tolerance to it.
No idea why he'd have a poisonous snake around in the first place but to each their own.

That's the kind of guy that will work diligently to protect himself from dying of a snake bite and will end up being done in by something ridiculously banal like slipping in the tub.

Ooh! That sounds yummy!
In not so great food news, the KFC Double Down sandwich was supposed to be a limited time offering and was supposed to vanish from the menu May 23.
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...n-sandwich.jpgKFC's no-bun Double Down sandwich[/i]
"Since the release of the KFC Double Down sandwich on April 12, the bunless offering has made its home and is resting peacefully in the stomachs, thighs and butts of Americans everywhere, who have consumed nearly 10 million sandwiches, according to KFC officials."
http://eatdrinkandbe.org/article/ind...bledownpopular
Due to the brisk sales, KFC is keeping the Double Down around for a while. What concerns me about that is not the 540 calories or the 32 grams of fat that are contained in the sandwich. It's the 1380 milligrams of salt per serving ... when high sodium diets have been so clearly linked to high blood pressure and heart disease. YIKES!

Oh yeah, I suspect that's true. You know what really blew my mind? Finding out how really bad those fried onion appetizers that restaurants serve (like Outback's Blooming Onion) are for you.

It tastes similar (but a bit sweeter) to a wild rice, but the size of couscous. I loooove it.
Odd.. where ever you read that about cattails, it should have said the roots are edible. Roasted, they aren't bad. You can also use cattail root to thicken soups.

The best part? Someone came up with a vegan version!
http://www.ecorazzi.com/2010/04/06/t...ut-killing-it/
Still looks nasty though. Someone on a vegan forum I frequent made it, he said he ate half of it, was only able to finish the other half later, and then he wasn't so enthusiastic about food for a few days.
Blergh. I have nothing but noodles and popcorn in the cupboard and its the day before pay day. C'mon 2am, I wanna go get groceries!

Even when I was vegan, I never understood the appeal of mock meat. It's like.. okay, you're vegan. You object to eating animal products. So why eat something that's supposed to imitate meat?
