I used a Ben Pearson 70lb pull compound bow to take 2nd in county for targeting when I was 14.
I still love the feel of an old school long bow- harder to use effectively, but, damn, what a rush when you do

One thing I've been thinking about is dressing up the two revolvers I'm going to buy with service grips like these
http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...5303&training=
and adding some custom engraving to the weapons themselves (Maybe a skull in the likeness of myself,a scar stretching from the top of the left ear and going to the top of the forehead,a tooth missing on the lower left jaw,and cigarette hanging out of it's mouth, and some text under the image that reads "Death's Right Hand")
I need to work on the over all design of the engraved image but I think it would look nice on stainless steel, with the wooden grips.

Hey, it's not a cool factor, it is a pragmatic hunting tool.
I prefer long bow.

The long bow is pretty nice, takes time and practice to be accurate with them though, but those that master it get a lot of respect from me.

It's pretty hard to shoot with the weapon kicked over to the side (Plus with most semi-auto's you run the risk of spent brass comming back down and causing a jam)
Besides holding and shooting a handgun sideways just looks sloppy (DMW Hate's the Gangsta' style shooting stance)

Yeah but just like a lot of what is shown on tv,it's unsafe and doesn't translate into effectiveness in real life.

But I don't think the blade bends or flexes, from the looks of it the belt does the flexing,so the sword it's self is rigid.

If that's the case you would be better off with something more practical...

Fans made of metal instead of wood were used as weapons in Japan. It was quite popular, actually, if I remember correctly. And in times when weapon is illegal, it's just perfect.
I want a Boken (wooden katana). Less beautiful than any real sword, but it's more practical than anything for me. Maybe when I gat better with this, a real katana could be lovely.

Hi Noirette. If you want a bokken (or bokutō as the Japanese call them) try local martial arts supply stores or online, they are very cheap. Though the bokutō is a wooden practice sword it is deadly in trained hands - the legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi won many of his duels with one, against many a live bladed opponent.

I'll buy one whenever I will be practiced enough for this. I started Aikido not so long ago and we learn how to use Bokuto (nice to know it's Japanese name), wooden knife and Jo, ehich is a very dangerous weapon also, when used and made correctly.
Do you practice any martial arts?
By the way, they can be also very expensive.

Yeah I was joking. For hunting it's far more effective.
And longbow's are brilliant. I don't find them particularly difficult to shoot with though. But I have been doing instinctive shooting for a while now.

Insticntive shooting can be pulled off with a single action revolver (It's best to use a modern version like a ruger single six,or a straight copy of a Colt Single Action Army)
With practice it's like pointing your finger at close range (7-15 yards)
After a while I was able to keep six out of six in the center mass area of a B-21XR target.

I wouldn't mind locating metal fans of various sizes for myself!
All this weapon talk makes me want to go and do weapon training again, we did swords and bows and they were going to let me start on axes and spears but I had to leave since I didn't have time for it anymore.

Gothicus, I stand corrected! Oh great one. *hangs head in shame*, but I loved the dissertation on goths, and yes the music is still for you.

Back to the topic of Sword Canes.
This one looks pretty good, and at the price range it should function as both pretty well.
