Elizabeth Warren Should Be In Charge Of Reforming The Finance Industry
I first learned who Elizabeth Warren was when I stumbled across her appearance on The Daily Show where she was interviewed by Jon Stewart. Ms. Warren is currently Chairperson of the Congressional Oversight Panel for TARP. This is the comment from that appearance that really jumped out at me:
"We start[ed] pulling the threads out of the regulatory fabric and what's the first thing we get: we get S+L crisis. Seven hundred financial institutions fail. Ten years later what do we get? Long Term Capital Management, where we learn that when something collapses in one place in the world it collapses everywhere else. Early 2000s, we get Enron, which tells us the books are dirty. And what is our repeated response? We just keep pulling the threads out of the regulatory fabric.
So we have two choices -- we are going to make a big decision, probably over about the next six months. And the big decision we are going to make is going to go one way or another. We are going decide, basically, "Hey, we don't need regulation. You know, it is fine. Boom and bust, boom and bust, boom and bust, and good luck with your 401k." Or alternatively we are going to say, you know, "We are going to come out with some smart regulation that is going to adapt to the fact that we have new products and what we are going to have going forward is we are going to have some stability and real prosperity for ordinary folks." (you can read more about that appearance and see both video segments here: http://huff.to/wM3EC )
Well, that was enough for me. She had me at hello, so to speak.
But today I stumbled across this little gem ... it's a DVD extra from the Michael Moore documentary "Capitalism: A Love Story" and it's about 8 minutes of Moore interviewing Elizabeth Warren. (You can see the video here: http://bit.ly/5khqGY )
What got me about this piece, and what really highlights the true need for reform in the financial industry, is when Ms. Warren, a Harvard Contract Law Professor, explains that she cannot understand the 48 pages of her own credit card contract. If she can't understand it, what chance have you and I got?
With the amount of money being slung around by special interest groups and the pressure from lobbyists and lawyers for the financial institutions to block real reform, I think it unlikely she gets a crack at actually fixing this mess. But I sure would like to see her try.
Anyway, you can search around google and youtube and see other appearances by Elizabeth Warren. I do think you will be impressed. She's smart, she gets what's going on, she always speaks in a poised, deliberative manner and she absolutely thinks it's her mission to represent the little guy, the middle class families, in these affairs. And when she talks, Republicans and Democrats alike listen.

She is pretty brilliant. Only problem is, no one is implementing anything she is saying.

she is not all that.
Come on let's be realistic for one moment.
They are all the same in the end.
All you hear is words and witness very few actions.
What's new!

creature6, I've gotten used to your near-trollish and petty negativism, but the two posts you've posted here are the most witless things I've seen here in some time. Pessimism for the sake of being pessimistic is useless. Your second statement proves you don't know what you are talking about.
CptSternn, that is exactly why I posted this thread here, and why I'm talking about Elizabeth Warren and her proposals in every other internet venue that I post in. I believe that the more people I can get to listen to her financial policies and advice, the more likely that pressure will be brought to bear on our elected leaders to implement her suggestions.
Is it a challenge on the scale of David vs. Goliath? Yes. But that doesn't make it not worth trying.
I also learned that she's been added to the short list for the Supreme Court vacancy. I hope she's not selected or that she makes it clear that she would decline the position, as I believe she can do more good in the role she inhabits now.

What the hell? How deep up your ass did you have to burrow your fist to pull out a comparison to Gordon Brown?
You have a right to keep your own opinion. And I wish you would keep it to yourself. An uninformed opinion such as you've posted here deserves no respect whatsoever. If you have a logical case to make against her, state it.

i'll on time.
Patience child.
I have a point and i'll share it when i'll be pleased to do so.
When you will come down maybe.
There is no need to upset you more with my view point and explain why i think she is a waste of space.
I might give a clue later if you behave.

Yeah, Ben, better be a good boy or you'll be forever deprived of the inane expulsions of a gaping cunny. That'll teach ya.

Yeah, she's already on my ignore list ... a great weight has been lifted from my shoulders. And a great pain has been removed from my ass.

You should ask that glowy chick if she can heal your baby of her alchohol-induced spastication. She's holding a rosary and shining - the mark of a chick who can get things done.

You just need to go to Lourdes and you might be blessed.
A miracle might happen ,one that will save yourself.

Nah, I manage to make drunken spastication look rakishly charming. The only thing I need saving from is hordes of women with a moist spot in their panties and a crazed determination to have me even if it must be burglary.

See? There's another one. Away, strumpet! Your air hostess get-up does nothing for me.

Damn, Apathy's_Chilld, with creature6 on my ignore list, reading that unfolding list of your replies was pretty damned amusing. I guess you spanked her witless hide but good.
