Flowers? From whom?

[ muffled voice ] Plumber, ma'am..

I don't need a plumber. You're that clever shark, aren't you?

Land Shark: [ muffled voice ] Candygram.

Candygram, my foot! Get out of here before I call the proper authorities. You're the shark, and you know it.

[ muffled voice ] I'm only a dolphin, ma'am..

A dolphin? Well.. okay..

I think so. I'm no computer expert, but I think IP is related to the specific computer you're using. Just to be safe, better ask someone who knows a lot more. Question- why do you want to know this, eh? Planning something illegal?

I beg to differ.

When you connect to the Internet via. your Internet Service Provider, they will provide you with an IP (Internet Protocol) Address. This address will be a random address selected from a range that is available to you according to where you live, and the size of your ISP. The ISP will probably never issue you with the same IP address more than once.

When hosting a website from your computer, you need to talk to your ISP and purchase from them a 'Static' IP address. This means that whenever you connect to the Internet, you will always be re-issued the same IP, so that computers always know which address to find your website at.

Changing your computer will not change your IP address, but every time you connect to the Internet it will be different anyway.

Of course there is a lot more detail than this, and if anybody would like, i'm happy to give lessons!

N.B. The IP address you have when you are behind a router or gateway (on an Intranet) is DIFFERENT from the IP address used when you are talking to the Internet.

I must ask, why do you wish to change your IP address?

I'm not so sure. You have at the moment 20 something posts and except for one of them, they've all been made from the same IP address. Unless of course, you typed all but one of your posts in one session, unlikely as it may seem. Maybe you got B-band and keep your pc always on?!

Hehe, Xnguela! Here and I thought you had some sinister motive behind wanting to know that- either that, or it somehow had to do with pee.

Mr Maelstrom, you are quite correct, however you assume I do not have a static IP address.. Infact I am an Internet host, with a static IP of 213.123.136.243, which resolves to the name CGRnD.com, where there is infact a server (under my desk) listening on the http (or port 80) protocol, which is the provider of my website at the address http://www.CGRnD.com.

If you check other people's IP address logs I am sure you will find no two login attempts are from the same address.

I was using my personal website as an example, to prove a point and answer a question. If you'd bother to check out the website you would notice that it does not provide any services nor advertise any products.
If I were you, i'd not be wanting to tell everyone who posts a web address for a story, news article, or artistic creation to do it in 'Shill'.

No, jokes are funny.

Why are you taking out your pain on me? Why not just punch the keyboard, it will take less effort and you will realise faster that it was a mistake.

There wouldn't have been a need for an arrogant smart-assed comment in the first place if you'd have done your revision...

Did you just add me on MSN so that you could block me?

Yes, I think someone else need to "settle the fuck down", you know who you are. Hostility is so unbecoming, especially in a mod!

I think we could also cut Deadhymn some slack, he is trying to quit smoking guys. And he's not getting so much support on the homefront.Plus he said he was only joking, but some people don't know when to let things go.

So Dead:I hope you're still stickin' to it, babe! It's hard, but worth it,plus you'll save a few bucks along the way.

Yeah, and it's hard to quit smoking, especially if you started young

Well, I suppose trying to quit smoking could explain things. Once my mom tried to quit and I wished she'd start again because all we did was scream at each other! Will you accept my good wishes for success, Deadhymn, or would it be stupid of me?

Yeah, about that, we spoke on MSN shortly after that *discussion* and agreed that the arguement was pointless and stupid... How have we deviated so far from the thread topic??
