The cuticle isn't lying flat so your hair is rougher so it already has a bit of hold to it.

Mr Snorkel has loose, soft, beautiful hair. It is such a bitch to backcomb : )
Hmmm, maybe rough hair + easier styling = damage justification!

Crimpers, crimpers are the friend to all those with soft and lovely hair that they can't backcomb. I invested in a pair and never looked back.

Thank you! Of course, crimpers. What sort of gothwife am I for not thinking of those?

Crimpers aren't too hard to hunt down. They often come in those cheap 'styling sets' that include a straightener and various curling implements. Or there's eBay.

Yeah ebay sounds like an option. I want to get the regular crimper with the v's in the clamper, and I wanna get one of those three prong crimpers that give you a natural looking wiggle like you've braided your hair all night.

Put your hair in a bun all night, when you take it out in the morning you'll have 1950s curls, it's awesome. Magical hair dressing shortcuts lol!

Tres Emme sell crimpers with loads of attachments and things, the crimpers are the best attachment, the straighteners on them aren't worth the material they're made with.

You can get crimpers at Sally Beauty. They sell all sorts of hair appliances and their prices are good.

Hmm... haven't been to Sally Beauty for a while... may have to make a trip soon!

Coat it in olive oil for half an hour then wrap in warm towel. When you rinse it off always do so in cold water for the last three minutes.

* Use a good conditioner for dry coloured hair, use an intensive conditioner once a week (Aussie 3 minute hair rescue is good). Rinseing your hair with cold water on the final rinse will make it more shiny.

* Try turning down the heat on your hair dryer. Try not to use hot tongs or straightners too much. If you do use them use a good heat protection spray first.

* If you dye your hair yourself make sure when you dye your hair you only put it through the roots at first (you may already know this but lots of people mess up their hair this way). Try and leave it as long as possible between dyes.

* Make sure you get regular trims.

I use a device called the 4PlayStyla which includes a crimping attachment as well as straightening and curling attachments.

I find it amusing as well. Whenever I mention it, the response seems to be "Haha, you said foreplay!"
