Good Heavy metal bands?

Hey, whats going on?! I was wondering if any of you out there would like to compile a list of all the heavy metal bands you think are really good. I'm trying to fill up my iPod. Also I love Techno and Trance. Does anyone know of any good Heavy metal bands?

Bands I already know of:
Metallica
Killswitch
Anthrax
Arch enemy ( I did not like what they sang about so I don't listen to them. )
Bullet For My Valentine
Megadeath
Rob Zombie
And a few others I can't think of.

Early Metallica Albumns: Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and Garage Days - that last one specifically because of their covers of "Breadfan" and "The Prince".

what i've come to find is that metal is better when it comes from europe. it must be the climate, or something in the water...but DAMN! there are some AMAZING sounds comming outta denmark, russia and all those other anti-mainstreamed countries you woldnt expect to hear from...HOLY SHYTE! it rocks!

*i mean no offence

So what? I like DragonForce.... kinda. I'm actually suprised myself because metal, in all of it's forms, (in my oppinion) pretty much sucks. How someone could butcher musical instruments and their vocal chords and still be able to call it music is beyond me.

Here are a few that are in my collection that seem to be missing from the previous (awesome) suggestions:
Type O Negative, Moonspell (just saw them last night!!), Samhain, Cat Rapes Dog (not quite metal, if you’re into techno sounds you might like them and their lyrics are hilarious), Ajatarra, Finntroll, Nightwish.
Also, I have to second the suggestion by V.I.R.U.S<3 (by the way V, are you from Scandinavia? There are a lot of Northern bands on your list)… AMORPHIS is the very best as far as I’m concerned. Also, to HauntedHouse… I like DragonForce too. I saw them at the Sweden Rock Festival last summer and they were grand.
