Yeah there is a reason why some people call Wal-Mart the Evil Empire, I would much rather spend twice as much to get the same thing somewhere else, thankfully I don't have to as I normally go to Costco and pay just a little bit more for twice as much stuff

I love Trader Joes, their store brand stuff is dirt cheap and is of fantastic quality. That and all of their employees love working there which is generally a good sign that they are not an evil company

RE: Wal-Mart Customer Service...

There actually are quite a few Wal-Mart associates who are friendly. However, keep in mind that (from what I've heard from friends who used to work there), the upper management treat their cashiers & lower-level associates like crap. If you were treated like just another number to help your company make money, would you want to go out of your way to be pleasant to customers? Probably not. That's not to say that it's OK to treat customers badly for no reason, but try to have a little empathy for the people who work there. They are (for the most part) paid horrible wages & treated like crap.

And trust me, I know how it is. I have worked in various customer service positions since I was a teenager. When I worked for an employer who seemed to actually care about me (including now), I was much more likely to pass on that friendliness and care to the customers.

Totally the opposite of what I do. I don't even know any goth shops. My wardrobe isn't very goth. I tried it, but it's too much effort and makeup is a pain in my ass. Anyway, I like vintage shops. Between them, the hardcore record store, and department stores, they make up half of my shopping. The rest is online at places like Amazon.com. I dislike paying more for something if I don't have to. I make minimum fuck wage and have tuition to pay.
As for the Walmart mistreating it's employees: Quit, strike, or shut up. Whichever they choose, I'm still buying their dirt cheap products.

Target, Value World (a thrift store), and any of the girly stores at the mall. I am very good at mixing, matching, and cutting things up to my liking.

Mostly thrift for me, I did buy a black jean jacket from The Gap(? Old Navy? I dunno, some place I felt very out of place in...) and promptly burnt the logo out and replaced it with an Invader Zim patch.

Same here on the thrift stores. Though I do go to the Dollar Tree, Walmart, and even Gordman's. There can be some nice stuff at Gordman's. Plus, I found a nice earthy smelling candle at the Dollar Tree. .

Several mall shops like Anchor Blue and Sears tend to have the occasional gem and nice find. Plus, Sears tends to have stretch jeans that fit my bum. Mervyn's has some nice tops, too.

Other than that, Target and online shops are where I stake my claim.

I try to avoid Walmart at all costs.

It's too bad the nearest clothing store is over 60 miles away from me.

I can't even buy socks in my own town. :'(

Claire's is awesome, I've been known to wander into random stores, the three that tend to give whomever I am with a shock are American Eagle, Hollister, and Rave. I've found a few nice things there that I've managed to make people buy for me.

I've been to Hot Topic a few times, but I only buy anime T's and the odd necklace there, and only if they are on clearance. I'm too poor to afford it otherwise.

Let's see, I also shop at Walmart, Thrift Stores, Yard/Garage sells, Bells Outlet, Ross, and JC Penny's. I think that's it.

Goth stores? I never go to "goth" stores. I assemble my stuff from things friends make for me and regular clothing I buy here and there.

Mostly Wal-Mart. There aren't a lot of thrift shops in my town--just Plato's Closet, which only takes in name brand, mainstream clothing--and I believe in shopping cheap. I've picked up some really good, cheap stuff there, mostly jeans, make-up and surprisingly workable stompy combat boots. I also shop at Ross, Belk's (found the most awesome lace skirt ever there for $5), and Sears.

Hot Topic's pretty much only good for hair dye, clearance-rack band shirts, and Tim Burton merchandise. The employees at the shop near where I live are pretty cool, though, so I hang out there sometimes.

I love Plato's closet. Are you from Michigan?
