I realize you haven't lived there in a while, but it still affects your judgement. New York seems awesome after Kentucky in the same line of thinking that being shoved in a pizza oven would seem like heaven after being boiled in a vat of hot tar.

NY is a melting pot for more groups and types of people than you can imagine. You ride the subway there's a hipster, a drag queen, 3 guys in business suits, 2 Hassidic Jews, 3 mexicans, 6 chinese, 5 break dancers, a mariachi and a partridge in a pear tree.
You could live in this town your whole life and not encounter every group. There is no place in the world more wonderfully diverse.
Colorado is full of white hippies and rednecks.

I also have an irrational hatred for NY, but I am getting rid of it, as I prefer going over there than going to Austin for graduate school.
Can someone fucking explain me why Austin is such a hipster magnet?
Seriously, there's tons of hipsters in NY but you'd expect that from the biggest city in the world. Austin, on the other hand, is just apparently a hipster magnet for no other reason than because it IS a hipster magnet.
