If you're trying to convince us of your supreme knowledge of metal, it's not working. Try naming bands that are less painfully obvious. It's like you copy-and-pasted from Wikipedia.

You're quite right that they did, they were a direct influence.
However, Blues was the direct influence to Rock, it doesn't mean that Mississippi John Hurt is a rockstar. Venom were Thrash in a way that hadn't really been seen before, and was a massive influence on Norwegian Black Metal. They weren't Black Metal however.

Give Dimmu Borgir some talent and some Taiwanese instruments: they'll sound pretty much like ChthoniC.

I picked death metal, although my favorite is melodic death metal, but there was no option for that. I am also getting to like doom metal a lot lately, Bands like moonspell have really begun to attract me lately.
I also like symphonic and melodic black metal, bands such as Dissection, Illnath, Emperor and Dimmu Borgir.

But i dont know why all those fights about the bands
If some1 likes a band its not necessary for the others 2 like it or hate it
Uh! Anyway it doesnt matter

Can someone define what a song would have to do to be both goth and metal? I have the feeling the two are mutually exclusive...

Technically, I think this song's supposed to be "Gothic Metal", but I see Goth influence in it. Also, if you skip to 4:31, it gets more obvious.

I hear more TOOL in there than anything. What exactly are you talking about? Those Eldritch-esque vocals?

Goth metal, does exist- But it's only goth in name. Most of it has Little to no influence from gothic rock, The bands mostly use Gothic style Imagery or they have gothic influences in the lyrics.

But who cares? like I said Gothic metal sucks.

You're giving Tool much too much credit. Celtic Frost formed in 1984. Sounds more like Bathory if anything.
The instrumentation, and the Eldritch-esque vocals, yes.
