My parents are separating.
I was just told that my mom and stepdad are probably going to get a divorce. As of ten minutes ago my stepdad moved out. I don't really know what's certain anymore or what to do.

That positively sucks. Try avoiding being alone unless you absolutely need to. Go to the closest person to you that isn't a parent and just talk to them. Doesn't even have to be about this, just talk. Don't put yourself in a situation where you're going to feel alone. Just try to keep your chin up.

How long were they married? Could you tell their relationship was in trouble or was it a shock to you? Do you side with your mother? How close were you to your step-dad? Sorry to hear you are having to endure it.

Yeah, my sister's here with me so I'm not alone. I could tell they were having problems but they seemed so trivial at the time. They were married for almost twelve years, but I didn't really ever get close to my stepdad, so you could say I side with my mom. Thanks for the concern guys, it means a lot to me even though I don't know you. I just feel kind of confused. My stepdad gave us this long speech about what pushed him over the edge to finally move out, and none of it was pretty. I don't ever think I heard so much cursing in my life.

When my parents split up it was a surprise. When I was 17 I heard yelling one night upstairs, ran up to their bedroom to find my dad yelling at mom, and when he saw me he shut up and ran out of the house, and the next day moved out.
Mother told me later they had problems for years but refused to fight in front of us kids, and stayed together for us. But they both became a lot happier after the divorce.
So I feel for what you are going through. :hugs:

Thanks, and I'm actually already better than the crying mess I was earlier. I feel like my parents will be better without each other and am currently packing up my crap into totes, just in case we have to move fast.
