Welcome. It's a custom around here that every new member has to answer a few questions posted in the Introductions thread, so it would be very nice of you if you did so.
Anyone who is interested in the Goth subculture and is willing to learn about it is welcome here. This applies to all people, 'emo' or not, as long as they are open-minded and polite.

Emo, eh? As long as he's, as our dear Raven said, open-minded and polite, it should be OK.

Ahh, emos. I've always wanted an emo to take home with me so I could make them cry more and use as my personal slave. Teehee.

I find them rather adorable. Play nice and we won't bite. Well, we won't bite hard enough to hurt. Maybe.
Meh. If he doesn't like it, he can leave.
Oh, and capitalize your i's. I is correct, not i.

And if you want to get really technical, you should have put the "I" and "i" in quotes or italics. BOO-YAH.

Let slip the Goths of War..
No, seriously, let him join and if he's worthy then we won't light our flamethrowers. But if we do... *ominous music*... have marshmallows ready!

Hello Dan, and welcome to the site.
As others have pointed out... we don't mind the occassional emo/punk/'normal' etc here. What we do tend to mind are people who are rude, who use Text speak, who are annoying attention seekers, and who are Paris Hilton.
Most people here are easy going. However this is primarily a community of people who love literature, so to quote your 8th grade teacher..."Yes, Daniel. Spelling DOES count." We salivate over spelling, go ga-ga over grammar and perceive punctuation as profound... I won't tell you what we do over capital letters, as it is messy and stings if you get it in your eye.
Please feel free to introduce your emo friend. I, like Dancer, have always wanted to take home an emo boy... they are so pretty and would look perfect chained to the floor at the bottom of my bed. If he is good I may even give him a little cushion to sleep on.
Oh.. and I have to point out that I don't agree with Tismine. I've always thought that it doesn't really count as a bite unless you leave a hole behind.

I know, and I would have, but I found that it looked quite ugly.
-_-
Something's wrong when you start dictating your sentences with how pretty they look.

If we really really want to get technical we could point out that 'Boo-Yah' isn't in fact a word. Well, it isn't in English. I does sound like something Yiddish that my girlfriend would mutter.

In my opinion, it died with the breakup of Jawbreaker. Then again, I've never really been a fan of emo music (at least in its more mainstream reincarnation).

I think if your friend doesn't want to get burnt, then he NEEDS to realize the difference of goth and emo. That would be about it. I notice that goths take a huge offense to the confusion of goth and emo, especially when emos identify with emos and say they're emo and think it's interchangable with goth. Which is wrong.

I've said this before; the one thing that infuriates me most is when I am mistaken for a member of the emo subculture. Not that I have any problem with Emo, but only with the "scene kids". If you really know what you're talking about when you identify with what is Emo, so to speak, then I have no qualms about talking to you. Just don't mix up what is Goth with what is Emo, as Kontan said.

Which is a little like saying that Goth died when Batcave closed it's doors.

Indeed. And Bogans as well. I don't mind Bogans but I hate being confused with them.

Hmm...
"Dear Dr Gothic.Net, I'm as gothic as a certain Mr Eldritch, does that makes me Emo?"

Dear G-Net
The darkness of your frilly back ground suffocates me
Like a big suffocating frilly thing
It is as dark as my soul
The pain I feel is like a pointy doo-dah
I bleed when it breaks the skin
Because I have veins and arteries and what not
Suicide is awesome
My hair does a flippy thing
And my glasses are cool
It makes me sad how awesome they are
One man went to mow
Went to mow a meadow
But his tractor broke
It was depressing
Kind of like when I couldn't get those new sneakers
Only not
An emo poem by Tha Duckman.
