You really don't have to respond to fire with fire. You don't have to bicker with trolls. You don't have to trade insults for 150 posts in a row and then act shocked if you feel like the wrong person or people in an asinine ten page juvenile insult exchange got put on time out. We've cleaned house here before and it really reduced the problems for a long time, but we'd really rather people learned to be civilized on their own this time.

what about actually showing us that you care? I mean, I´ve been sticking around for a while, and it was a lot better around here when we actually knew that there were mods around who cared, and who posted actively in the forums themselves. I care about these forums, that´s why I´m actually spending my precious time replying to this; it´s the reason I´ve stayed here for so long. Perhaps, just showing everyone that the staff also cares about what´s happening on the site on a regular basis might be just what´s needed? You know, "all you need is love", right? Actually banning the damned trolls before they start their rule of mayhem usually works perfectly well, in my experience (and I have been moderator -and- administrator of rather large forums myself pretty much constantly since I was thirteen years old. That´s quite a while ago). The way this site is run today is completely fucked up. Why should we care if -you- guys apparently don´t give a damn?

The forum functions much better as an open community that resolves its own issues, do you really need to be told when you should and when you shouldn't post and what those posts should contain? Have a little confidence in your own judgment.

I prefer it unmoderated. That way, there isn't a specific person in power to whom people can suck up to and attempt to manipulate. More often than not, where there's power, there's corruption.

This is also true. While we're not in danger of a Maoist land reform policy or a Fourth Reich, there are plenty of up-their-own-ass moderators on the internet who close threads and ban people because someone said that something they said was silly or said that a band they like is shit. Moderators are really quite worthless on an internet forum, just a needless obstacle.

Its true the best wasy to get rid of them is to ignor them and wait for a mod or admin to fix the problem.
