What exactly do you plan to do after you've finished studying? I'm rather curious.

A masters in forensic archaeology (it's the program I'm looking at right now, but it's subject to change over the next few years), a PhD in something equally awesome after that, and ultimately want to work as a forensic anthropologist.

That sounds pretty cool. I wish I had that much focus. I'm working it though, bit by bit.

I don't actually need that focus at the moment since Arch and Anth is so broad and includes so many amazing subjects, but the skull room at the intitute sends my heart a-flutter like nothing else.
What sort of direction are you planning on creating this focus?

I hope to write, about music mainly. I have an opportunity for that at the moment, writing reviews of unsigned bands for a friends online music magazine, it's unpaid but it's experience and there is a high chance that it will become a paid position in the future.

Sounds good. All I can say is just keep at it (which is probably what everyone else says). You're lucky you have a chance to get some real experience, even if it's unpaid. Digging up bodies has fewer opportunities for that, haha.

I imagine there is a lot less real experience to be had with that but at least you know what you want to do. I've kind of dabbled in a few things, never really finding anything that suited me ( I used to be a legal secretary!) until I got older, though I'm happier about things now that I seem to have found something that suits me.

Honestly, it took me so fucking long to figure out my direction. I'm twenty years old, and up until about a year ago I was clueless. I thought I wanted to be a marine biologist, then a rockstar, then an Egyptologist, then a surgeon, then a costume designer, then a zoologist, then a geneticist... and so on and so forth. But the whole time, I didn't know a career was possible in the study of human bones. It seems so obvious now, but when all the usual doctor, lawyer, astronaut shit is thrown at you it's easy to let it slip by.
I could easily rant on about it at the moment... Having just started my course and now knowing it was the right decision I'm ridiculously relieved! I've started so many things only to find I couldn't follow through because they weren't 'me'.

It's taken me quite some time to work out what I want to do and what suits me. I originally wanted to be a surgeon myself but unfortunately, it just wasn't to be. I think I've found something that suits me now though, so that's what counts.
Still Jack, are you planning to study a particular period of History?

It took me a few years to find my calling as well, but I am glad that I am finally enrolled in a course that I am passionate about.

I'm not quite sure yet. I'm interested in pretty much any historical event that has shaped humanity/society into what it is today.

Photography, especially darkroom work. I was somewhat disappointed to discover that we cannot develop our own prints, though: we have to feed them through a machine instead.

All of my contacts on msn mysteriously disappeared sometime in the last week.

I drove my little brother to school this morning. We grabbed breakfast on the way, and it was nice to spend some time with him.
I got wonderful smelly things from Black Phoenix Alchemy lab.
5ml bottle of Bengal, which I adore, and imps of Zombi, Hellfire, Darkness, and Blood. Om-noms for my nose.
I'm going to see American Werewolf In London tonight.
AND I'm waiting for an email containing pictures of my(?) new apartment and the lease. My stuff is almost completely packed, and I am just about ready to get the hell out of here.
Yay!!!
