Music Finally, an entire forum devoted to talking about Doktor Avalanche, the drum machine for the Sisters of Mercy. You can talk about other bands, or other members of that band, too, if you want to be UNCOOL. |

Good bands that could appeal to more mainstream people.
I need a little help. Well, technically, my pretty girl needs help.
A music magazine has asked her to be a contributor to it (and also be a model^^) and they're currently looking for good bands to include in their magazine. Not necessarily new and local bands, but just good bands overall. She asked me for help because, naturally, who knows better music than I in my city? :P
The only thing is that this magazine is oriented to metalheads and the like, so I can't say Bauhaus and such, but she doesn't want crappy metal bands; she wants bands that I would sincerely enjoy because they have talent.
So basically, I need help from you guys. What are some good bands that could appeal to "dark" non-gothic sort-of-mainstream people?
These bands are going to be on the magazine, so go nuts mentioning bands that you'd like they were given more credit.
Only two rules are: the bands should also appeal to this target market (like Laibach; they'd enjoy Laibach), and they cannot be too obscure, because they need to research about these bands and provide a decent bibliography and discography and the like.
I have come up with these bands:
Laibach (Rammstein is very popular around here and Laibach is similar only much better)
London After Midnight (their new CD would provide for a nice article)
Einsturzende Neubauten
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
Killing Joke
Ex-Voto (they're coming this March, so it would be a nice article)
Las Gorgonas

Well, I don't know anything about metal like bands, except for one that really is mainstream which is Avenged Sevenfold. I rather enjoy their guitars. But I'm not sure if that helps you...t_t

Avenged Sevenfold is melodic metalcore. Anyway, uh... I fancy Godsmack myself. Oh! Ill Nino (put a tilde above the n ~) yeah. They're great.

The Cruxshadows seem like the most overrated EBM band to me. They are fun and danceable. I can seriously imagine seeing them on MTV among MCR and Evanescence. I don't know, I think they have a slight commercial appeal.
I'm not trying to be mean or sound horrible. I'm a casual fan though they do kind off piss me off at times. And no, I'm not saying they sound like those mall goth bands.

NFD!!! They're like a more metal Fields of the Nephilim, and absolutely brilliant! Theatre of Ice too, they've got some heavier stuff. Or even Address Unknown! But their guitarist is a bit of a ponce.

Dir en Grey, Moi dix Mois, Malice Mizer and all that jazz.
Visual-Kei could always become interesting to these people.
If it's metal they want though, mention Chaganaut.

Bella Morte? They seem to appeal to metalheads, especially their latest (and least appealing to me) album.

The Way of All Flesh (Goffick rock band, definitely rock music)
Nik Page and the Sin Machine (German Industrialish stuff, should appeal)
Uninvited Guest (some quite heavy guitar, may not be their thing- have a listen first)
I shall see what else I might dig up. Would they listen to stuff with a rock'n'roll or punk kinda sound? If so, Devilish Presley are very much worth a listen. And All Gone Dead, perhaps- their Fallen album, maybe?

Actually I have all their albums, and while I love them all, their earlier work does appeal to me and by most standards I am a "metal head".

How about Deine Lakaien? Or they are already in the loop, so to say, in that area?

NFD are indeed excellent.
Fields of the Nephilim are also a stunning band and might appeal to people with a commercial taste, because of their amazing 'The Nephilim & Elizium' albums.

Metal, I'd say some of the more or less popular symphonic metal groups (a few which I like, regardless if they are popular or not), such as: Within Temptation, Silentium (actually use to be Goth, then went metal and changed their name), Midnattsol (folk/symphonic metal) and even Nightwish.
I also think Emilie Autumn could have more mainstream appeal. Except, I don't think she has ever done a music video. But I can see TBM having as much mainstream appeal as MCR, though TBM is much better.
