I think I know what Michaels is here in the U.S. (a craft, fabric and home furnishings store), but what is it there?

Our's is a craft store, never see much in the way of fabric and home furnishing though. Mostly kids crafts, jewelry making, yarn, cross stitch, that kind of thing.

Probably the same chain. They have some pretty big ones here, so they may carry an extended line of products. Michaels or Hobby Lobby are where I head if I need arts and crafts supplies.
Could be a fun job. It'll still be work, and you'll have to deal with all sorts of customers, but if you can deal with the bad ones and you have a good manager, for the most part that should be quite rewarding.
I expect that it will be particularly fulfilling when customers confide in you with details about what kinds of projects they are trying to complete, and you are able to point them to the right tools and materials to complete their work. Maybe if you're really good and enthusiastic, from time to time a few will come back to show you how they turned out.
I'm really happy you got the job!

I really don't mind retail work, and it sounds like I'm going to get moved around the store a lot. They also do framing and apparently the guy was impressed that I know how to use a tape measure (yeah, really!) so I could get put in there. Our's also has a huge cake decorating and baking section which is really cool, and they have crafting classes. I wouldn't mind teaching knitting, and I really want to take the jewelry making one.

My day sucked.
But then I made the most delicious curried cauliflower, squash and potatoes, and all was right with the world.
The potatoes and cauliflower were underdone, but still.......... Curry just makes everything better...

I was reading about Joe Dante's 1983 nostalgia comedy "Matinee", which is loosely based on the career of director/producer William Castle. As part of the story, the director (played by John Goodman) is promoting his latest b-grade horror film "Mant!"
I found out you can see the entire film-within-a-film "Mant!" on YouTube, and I have been laughing until my sides were sore! Office of Unforseen Atomic Events, indeed!
Joe Dante's MANT! part 1 (8:23)
Joe Dante's MANT! part 2 (8:11)
"Sorry? You think this is some kind of picnic for me?"
"What in creation do you call that thing?" "Bill."
"But don't you understand. He's not a monster - he's a shoe salesman." "Would you let THAT fit you in a pump?"
LMAO!

New job?
YAY, SAYA'S NEW JOB!!!
I've been watching Twin Peaks and that makes me happy. I guess I'm becoming a David Lynch fan. I also got to catch up on my True Blood. Yes, I hear you. Quit giggling, damn it.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that when I first read that, my mind swapped "dolls" and "bust".

Jake and I are starting to seriously consider getting a cat though we won't actually adopt until he had been through meps, we both agree that a companion animal would be good to have while he is away and with our schedules a dog would be difficult. So today we went to go play with kitties and get some questions answered. One was this adorably plump orange tabby named pumpkin, he was just about the most affectionate cat I have ever met but he is apparently terrified of dogs so he isn't really a good fit for us (even though we can't really handle one now we do eventually want to get one). I didn't take him home with me but he still put a big smile on my face.

I showed my friend(who can't stand Black Metal) the lyrics to "One Rode To Asa Bay", by Bathory.
He said they were amazing, and the best lyrics he's read in at least a year.

So, my new cat was badly abused by her original owners. We know she was thrown against walls and we strongly suspect she was choked before too. Overall she's surprisingly friendly and is showing her belly to us already. She does not like Mercedes but I'm sure they'll get used to each other over time, right now they're keeping their distance and hissing if one of them gets too close.
But one thing that seems sad is that she doesn't really know how to play. I dangle some yarn for her but she seems mostly confused and can rarely catch it. What made my day was that I'm studying, and I bat a ball around when I'm thinking about what I've read. The ball got away from me and she fetched it! I always wanted a cat that played fetch <3

Hey! A cat that plays fetch is a very cool thing, indeed!

She'll learn how to play, just keep playing with her.
I went to see a movie, and had a really looong lunch with my girlfriends and didn't once have to tell them to sit still and keep eating... ahh adults, already trained.

Teka, just so you know: the posts you make in the 'whining' section do not get added to your post count.
