I really like Bauhaus, I'm not really sure why though, I find their music terribly relaxing. I like The Sisters because I love the lyrics. I like Siouxsie, mostly because of the voice though. Cure doesn't really light my candle.
But the lot of them pale into insignificance when compared to the awesomeness of Sex Fiend.

Hey man, I like Fleetwood Mac, so my opinion's not really valid in this circumstance.

I love Alien Sex Fiend. I used to listen to them on headphones while doing monoprints and I think I scared the shit out of the freshmen in my art class (I spent most of highschool in the artroom and got passes so I
could stay in there when it wasn't my class). My avatar is one of those prints.

I will be the first to admit that I do not know an awesome huge amount of Goth bands, but I know a bit about the roots.
My original rant covers people who claim to be goth yet not knowing what it means, then trying to educate everyone around them.
I had a guy come up to me and tell me he was Goth, so interrested, I asked him about what goth bands he liked. Then he said Evanescense, HIM and Marilyn Manson. Then I called him a poseur, and he wanted to hit me, but he was too drunk and almost fell.
People like that annoy me.

Bauhaus and Siouxsie, I can listen to at select times. There's a few songs I'm always in the mood for, but a lot of it gets skipped while my iTunes/iPod is in shuffle.
The Cure, I can listen to all day (at least their early to late-80s stuff) and never get tired of it.
And I've never heard a Sister's song I didn't like.

Well I dont think it's a matter of diminished understanding of goth, because when you understand somthing it sticks with you(like 1+1=2). I think it's simply a matter of an increased number of people being aware of goth, but not understanding it.

Such blasphemy makes me spew forth black chunks of gothish rage!
Ever since I saw Siouxsie in concert at the House of Blues I have had a secret crush on her that my wife doesn't know about. Actually, my wife knows but doesn't care. After 25 years she knows when and when not to worry.
I suspect Pineapple Juice doesn't like those two because they don't make her tap her feet? Try this:

Sisters of Mercy are ok, but they really just make me want to listen to Joy Division.

I started making a list of Goth bands I prefer to the Sisters, but it became absurdly long before I was halfway done. I do actually enjoy them, though, which is, on the whole, more than I can say for Siouxsie and The Cure.

The mention of this FAQ may cause a variety of panties to bunch but for the love of all that is decent:

This goes especially for you, pal.

Considering where the name came from (there's a test question for all you 'gothic roots' fanatics!) it should only be natural that the Sex Gang Children get a mention as a 'pre-requisite' goth band along with the usual SBS (Siouxsie Bauhaus Sisters).
Chaotic Dischord should also be required listening for a lot of young goffs to remind them not to take themselves too seriously, which I think is a more important issue to address than merely 'not knowing the roots'.

Who says you have to wear eyeliner to be goth?
And who says you have to stick to a certain "accepted" kind of "other music"?
I skimmed it through and decided to discard it as trash.
Sorry.

Either you get the joke or you don't and there's no sense in telling it to one who will never have a punchline.

Unlike of course your highly generalized view of the alleged diminishing understanding of the gothic roots.
I do wish you'd read aloud what you type before committing it.

Well, if being a "True Goth" means that I have to wear all black all the time and listen to ONLY a set list of music because those other bands are "so ungawth!" then know what?
I don't want to be a true goth. Then it sucks tbh.

Fuck the scene, it already sucks. I stopped going to clubs because they always seem to be full of retards that possess a special kind of social incompetence. The one or two interesting people I actually liked also quit going for that specific reason...

Thankfully we still have a good club here (well at least one good night every week) but there used to be another great club that was all goth all the time but both the djs and the club goers kept becoming more and more uptight and elitist so it stopped being fun, it was to the point were people would give the bartenders shit for not being goth enough.
