Mortal Kombat?
Have you heard the rumors? MK9 is possibly going to be a reboot.
I love this franchise, but after MK3, it lost its way in my opinon. It tried to compete in the 3-D fighting game market and constantly gets pwned because Midway seems to think that gimmicks in their fighting engine can compete with tried and true 3-D fighting formulas that have been virtually perfected before MK even went 3-D.
There's also rumor that they are probably going back to their roots and trying to go 2.5 D with their fighting experience, much similar to SFIV.
Honestly, I don't care how they do it gameplay wise, but I would highly suggest that they pay attention to those that can make a better fighting game experience.
Midway has some amazing ideas and concepts for a fighting game, but these boys execute them so poorly that they disappoint more than deliver.
I remember MK|DA and the inclusion of melee weapons styles with actual martial arts styles. I was stoked, until I realized that they failed in combining those styles into a seamless and cohesive gaming experience. It really could have been one of the best fighting games ever made.
Hopefully with the MK production team being bought by WB, they'll have the ability and finances to deliver something truly great this time around.

See, I really liked Deadly alliance and the newer games.
As long as it's not as shit as DC Vs MK I won't be angry.

Yeah, MK3 was the last great MK game ... I think a move back to 2D would be brilliant.

Aww, it was shit? I haven't played Mortal Kombat in ages, it was still controversial when I was a kid so of course I wanted to play it all the time then, but after that I stopped paying attention.

Yeah they basically had about half the amount of characters as normal from each side.
And only the poster characters, so no Cyrax (as far as I remember) or any other smaller characters.
The main problem was that they tried to add a story, it would have been way better if it was just DC characters and MK guys beating the bejesus out of each other for no reason.

Yeah, that whole story they tried to develop to explain the merging of these two dispirit worlds just didn't work. And with the DC players bound by the morals of their characters, they couldn't have fatalities ... so what was the point in having them in an MK universe.
Imagine a Batman fatality ... beheading by batarang, anyone?

Mortal Kombat 2-D and 3-D are not the same game so its not a fair comparison. I am a fan of 2-D fighters so I wish that they did a Parallel series like K.O.F did.

The more I think about it, the more I feel that them going 2.5 D with a 2-D fighting experience in a fully 3-D setting would be pretty rad. If you think about it, they could conceivably reinvent UMK3 with the Unreal 3 engine and just be 100% awesome. o_0 I love the Unreal 3 engine. I'm glad that Neatherrealm Studios has it in their hands now.

What poppycock, Wonder Woman has a fatality move!
From the look of his face, I don't think Superman has one.

Fuck you guys, MK vs. DC had the best 3D Mortal Kombat fighting engine. The free-fall Kombat was awesome, and the rage bar forced you to integrate some measure of strategy. I concede that the single-player game was definitely limited due to the lack of unlockables, and that the toned-down blood sucked, but the important part of the game was solid.
Why the fuck would you complain about the storyline? Once you're beyond the threshold of absolute inanity, as Mortal Kombat's storyline has always been, adding Batman can only improve things. Also, so what if there were fewer characters? Half the characters in Mortal Kombat are boring as shit anyway. "OH NO WHERE WAS GIRL SUB-ZERO!? PURPLE SCORPION!!? KOBRA!1?!?!!11"

Dude, I'd have to agree with you for the most part on boring characters. I seen a few gameplay vids of MK vs. DC and I think they may be on to something with it and the next installment of MK should have this kind of fighting in it with some polishing up, of course.
As far as characters go, I'd have to agree, most MK characters are boring. The original ones aren't though. I think the best cast of characters they ever had was from MK2. But the best ninja design was from MK3 I think.

Except everything you just said is canceled out by the idea that it would have been a better game if it was a bunch of DC heroes against a bunch of DC villains!
I'm not disagreeing with you about the game engine, though.

Yeah, I forgot she did that ... and it wasn't that long ago that I read that whole storyline (which I thoroughly enjoyed.)

Scorpion is my boy, no doubt. ...But Sub Zero and Kung Lao certainly got their minerals this time around. Kung Lao is just too badass for words. And Sub Zero freezing and shattering internal organs? Fuck my life.
