Holy Maloney, Dancing_in_rain, that's harsh... am I glad I don't have to adhere to dress codes at my university... In fact, I showed up there today with a full death hawk (and mine's huge, very hard to miss) and actually got a few nice comments from my teachers. I scared the heck out of one of my fellow students who couldn't see me into the eyes for the rest of the day (poor fellow), which was rather amusing, considering that he's supposed to be the tough guy in our class, but hey...

There's a guy in my class who claims to be a satanist and he keeps getting called to the guidance councilers office. He always draws swaztikas(sp?) on his arms. He's actually a pretty nice person though. He's not really goth though so I guess this is kind of off topic.

- Jewelry should be small and inconspicuous: no more than two small earrings per ear; no necklaces or bracelets; maximum of two small finger rings; school pins should only be worn on blazers. Students will be asked to remove any jewelry that is outside the School Uniform Regulations
- No coloured undershirts are allowed
- Hair should be tied back
- School blouses must be tucked in at all times
- Hair bands, hair elastics, Ribbons and clips should be in school colours only
- Only regulation shirts are to be worn with kilts.
- Plain black or navy leather shoes with flat heels; lace-up shoes or strudy loafers. No black running shoes, clogs, patent-leather, canvas or other types of shoes or boots are permitted

Free dress regulations: When students are fiven free dress days, it is a privilege and not a right. Sutdents are expected to dress appropriately and respectfully. To this end, bare midriffs, spaghettit straps, very short clothing, revealing/provocative clothes, clothing with slogans, and any offensive accessories are not acceptable. Excessive make-up and jewelry are not acceptable either. Students are expected to wear comfortable and appropriate footwear. If a student arrives at school in clothing that does not meet these criteria, she will be asked to put on an extra uniform or go home to change. If you have gym class on a free dress day, you are still expected to change into your gym uniform.

All students are representatives of the school. Please, dress and behave accordingly. Show pride in yourself, your school and your uniform. Repeated uniform warnings can lead to detentions and eventually, to expulsion.

That's pretty extreme. I understand the uniform, but no makeup? And hair must be tied back?

That is terrible, I go to a public school where they really could care less, I wear wristbands that could easily be used at lethal weapons, and they don't care, of course their are very few goths in the school, I make up 1/3 of our schools goth culture.

wow there is absolutely NO GOTHS at my school that I know of except for me. Granted, there's metalheads...but I'm not sure if they count.

same here. It's hard when we represent the whole gothic subculture to our administrative staff. More of you need to move to my part of norcal and flesh out the population. I mean, they all think goth=emo and I'm going to kill myself, I could laugh (and I do).

Yep, I know it sucks. Of course, 2/3 of the girls at my all-girls, private, we-are-helping-you-become-young-ladies-of-the-future-or-at-least-thats-what-you-think school would have their shirttails sticking out from under their skirt if they actually tucked them in. And I get lectured for wearing a thin line of eyeliner, while girls walk by with their thongs showing. AH! However, it doesn't say anything in the school rules about piercings...two per ear but that's it. Therefore, I'm toying with the thought of getting my eyebrow or my nose pierced. They can't tell me to take it out because it doesn't say anything in the rules...can they? Actually, knowing my school, they'll add a rule in next year specifying no body jewelry apart from on ears. Well...by next year it should be healed so I can put a clear retainer in it. Hmmm...

Well, they can still make you get rid of your piercing, on the account that it's a distraction. Bullshit, yes, but my school tried to make me get rid of my painted on eyebrows because "it becomes part of the goth thing, and a danger." I told them what's what, and they haven't bothered me since.

Well, that's not the point.

Point here is...We have a lot of "mall goths" at school...they can be categorized into "I wear black on neon hot topic i can fit three people into one pant leg tripp bondage pants", "I love HIM, HIM is my life, therefore I should pay anywhere from 200-300 dollars for a leather jacket with the big HIM logo on it", "I think I'm gothic because I wear dark colors and lace and dark makeup, but pretend it doesn't say abercrombie and fitch on my shirt", and my personal favorite......"I'm so gothic because I do stage crew and wear all black all the time."

Anyways... I'm the only kid who does the whole "lo.li.ta" dress up with petticoats, frilly shirts, hair all done up, cute boots and really long sox (over the knee, thigh high) , corsets and the visual kei (how crazy pretty japanese boys and girls who look like french dolls on crizzack cocainee) thing...It attracts a lot of attention, and I absolutely love it. I've never been made fun of in my life for dressing the way I do, infact, the people who are snobs and bitches always tell me I look gorgeous without having a mean condentation at all.

OOOOooooOOOO! You are my new hero nightmare syndrome! However, my heroes last about half a day. SO tomorrow you'll probably be replaced. Oops. Anyways...I love visual kei. Dir en Grey, The GazettE (Ruki!) and An Cafe (Bou!) are my favourite, though they sometimes aren't considered visual kei by some people. My friend Kay and I have long dicussions and arguments about the music. One of my guy friends cosplays and I have to say, he looks so good in my petticoats and bonnet... :P

Hear hear!! Dir en Grey rocks! My school is still infuriating. Though it was funny yesterday when I wore this grey shirt that showed a realistic heart and ribs; my teacher said I couldn't wear a shirt with a heart on it so I pointed to the girl who sits next to me (who was wearing a care bear shirt with pink hearts) and said "oh, like that one." These poor people don't know what to do with us!

A word of advice to those having trouble with administrators about wardorbe: Know the rule book better they do!

'Round these parts the only dress code restrictions are no "racist signs" which is pretty much just swastikas or rebel flags (that second one being worn by just about everyone), no exposed midriffs, no "chain pants", no short shorts, and nothing that is a distraction in class.

For the most part everyone ignores the rules and gets by fine because everyone who breaks the dress code is someone who's expected to.

The only things they've done are try to get my tall, adorable, least-intimidating-thing-in-the-world friend to stop wearing his trench coat [they said it was "scaring the students" when we were having a series of people writing bomb threats on the boys bathroom walls.. which turned out to be a 'gangstery' type.]

And if your skirt comes above your knees so much as three centimeters, I'm convinced security would tackle you and force you home. Thing is, they ONLY do this to the gothy types. Which makes me a little angry, even though I'm not one for short shirts. :/

Once again, I think making students take off trench coats is completely justified. COMPLETELY. After all that has happened in schools, it could be a danger. You can easily hide drugs or guns in a trench coat.
However, if they enforce this rule, I think all coats should be banned. Not jackets, but big coats.

And they should probably make EVERYONE take off they're jackets and not just mine. Its understandable how someone might be offended by "Sex Gang Children" painted on the back, though. Still, if you're going to enforce a rule, enforce it on everyone. No jackets is a rule anyway.

It probably is dangerous, considering all the stuff you can hide under there. And I would agree, if it were enforced on everyone and not just him. Infact, I know quite a few people around my school who wear trench coats and don't get anything for it--even a particular lad who runs around biting people and claiming he's a vampire. Though once he did get his backpack searched, they never said anything to him about his huge jacket.

Our Dress code mainly cracks down on the Preps and The Gangstas...

Our Pricipal Respects the Goths of my school... As do the Secerity Guards and most of the teachers. We're all friends withthem and can get away with wearing dresses, skirts, chains, corsets, almost anything because My school is cool.
