I don't listen to AFI what I've heard I respect as hitting high notes is a bloody pain but something I don't quite get is except for the lyrics, which I can barely understand, the songs sound quite happy. Note: That was pure opinion.
Actually it was a little of both. So do whatever you'd like ASSume or give Hell.

I really have a tie between Sing The Sorrow and Decemberunderground, but, of the choices in this poll, it's Sing The Sorrow.

Sing the Sorrow most popular?
My fav is Art of Drowning.
However, STS a great album and epic in it's own right.
It's disappointing they went from that to DecemberUndergroud which isn't entirely as epic or meaningful but radio friendly rather.

Black sails in the sunset and the art of drowning, the All Hallow's EP is also very good and then it is Very Proud of Ya, although..being generic hardcore, I really like the lyrics and the energy.

AFI was PUNK, Now they're just that weird mix of things, honestly..I was expecting more of Decemberunderground, but I wouldn't mind more synth pop and less Miss Murder in the next album.

Davey is gay? ugh, I need a better gaydar.

When I first saw a picture of Siouxsie Sioux I thought she was a Theda Bara imitator. Uniqueness is everywhere dear.

I like the compilation "the Nitro Years" best, actually. Very melodic punk music. Everything from Sing the Sorrow on, however, is a pop-goth-punk bastard child. I used to like them... then they totally sold out.

Before calling a band sell-out I always think about this letter.

Go to http://www.miseriacantare.com/home.php, then to The Open Letter under The Band section.

It talks about how it really is..the whole process of becoming mainstream from the point of view of someone who knows bands and has toured with them.

It ends with these quotes:

"But it was something to see, something to remember. The men and the
machines--dying, smashing up, wearing out-- but always moving forward. Creeping through a wild and lonely world..."
-Jim Thompson, "South of Heaven"

"Let me give you a tip on a clue to men's characters: the man who damns
money has obtained it dishonorably; the man who respects it has earned it."
-Ayn Rand, "Atlas Shrugged"

Anyway, hope someone reads it =/. If not..whatever.

Sing The Sorrow. There's no question about it.

Son_of_putrefaction - Thanks for posting that letter. I'd been meaning to post it in one of these threads for ages, but forgotten where I'd read it. It certainly changed my attitude on bands 'selling out'.

People have got to relax on this selling out thing. When good bands are recognised and marketed, they become popular. If you happen to like their music, be happy for their success, don't fucking whine about it.

Decemberunderground is different, yes, but AFI are not all Decemberunderground and Sing the Sorrow. They still play a lot of older songs at shows - and believe me, seeing songs like Days of the Phoenix and God Called In Sick Today played live is WORTH the hundreds of emo kids clawing for the front row to catch a feel of Davey's balls (I'm not kidding. It happens.). The old material is still a part of them and always will be - they're still the same guys who wrote Black Sails in the Sunset, and for that reason I'll never abandon them, no matter how mainstream they become.

Favorite A.F.I allbum, thats an easy one.
My favorite album is Answer That and Stay Fashionable.
I like most of their albums, but Fashionable is my favorite.
Its my favorite because as soon as they hit the Art of Drowning, their music just turned kinda soft. Or it might be because I am a huge fan of punk music and they ruined a perfectly good punk band. Who knows.
I'm not saying that I don't like albums like December Underground and Art of Drowning, im just saying i prefer their old stuff over it.
