Vin, go home and get some rest; let yourself heal!
At my workplace, my boss will send me home if I come in with the flu.

Most of the time, with the exception of the occasional troll, baby-bat or emotional train wreck, this place attracts a pretty intelligent crowd overall. But lately there seems to be an inordinate influx of vapid, self-centered attention whores of minimal mental competence. It's dragging the whole place down.
This is supposed to be a bone-chilling Gothic literary culture. I don't think some of these people could write a post-it note to remind themselves to get milk.

It happens. We sometimes get great new members, although a lot do not stick around, and other times we get a mass income of stupidity, who probably don`t stick around longer than the other kind but it seems like they stick around longer XD

I understand this is a cyclical phenomena. I was just raging against the current incarnation, as it strikes me as being inordinately light on brain power, even compared to the average idiot influx.

I have to admit, it seems like the last few days the new arrivals have been less than...desirable. Not just in poor arguments, but spelling, grammar, the works. It is a bit irritating.

You measure a person's desirability using their typing skills?

Unless somebody is dyslexic, poor sentence structure, grammar, vocabulary etc. are perfectly good indicators of whether someone is a jackass, they just shouldn't be used in isolation.

I agree. Considering we're on the internet and you don't have a chance to meet these poor typers at a party, this indication IS mostly being used in isolation.
Isn't it possible a person is funny, charming, intelligent, and good looking, but doesn't give a rat's ass about typing correctly on gothic.net/boards?

Correct syntax and grammar should come naturally to most intelligent people, though I can't really say anything since my girlfriend's written communication is nothing short of atrocious.

My sister called me while I was on the bus on the way to a meeting at the crisis center. My dog Jess has taken a turn for the worse, she's being put down tomorrow. I was fine until we started the meeting, couldn't speak at all without choking up.

I've made this argument before. Correct use of spelling, grammar, sentence structure and paragraph formatting make one's writings EASIER to read. If you post somewhere, expecting others to read your words and you don't want to put some effort into making your comments easy to understand, you should expect a return serving of that same kind of disrespect.
If someone was holding a scarf over their mouth and talking to you through it, and it made their voice muffled and harder to understand, and it meant you had to work harder to listen to them, you'd call them on it.
It may not be an indication of intelligence, but it generally is an indicator of something.
If someone doesn't give a rat's ass about typing correctly, logically there's no reason anyone should give a rat's ass about what they're typing.

Oh man ... Saya ... that sucks. It just bites. I'm so sorry you're losing her.

Sorry to hear that Saya.
Some jackass started harassing my girlfriend about why she was with me. Main problem with having a stunning girlfriend is that it tends to attract challengers; I may convince her to get fat so that I can consolidate my position.

Oh, Saya, I'm sorry =( Are you close enough that you can be there when Jess crosses The Bridge?
My current rant is that my teeth hurt and no matter how much water I drink I'm still thirsty.

I'm tired of being sore and hurty. I can't take the extra-strong stuff they gave me because (1) it isn't good for proper digestion and (2) it knocks me out, and I need to be able to work.
But this is the second day in a row I haven't been able to sleep the night before because of the overall soreness.
I'm seriously considering calling it a day.
I hate pain.

Yeah, I get that a lot too. You just need to break her spirit until she doesn't feel like she really exists when you're not around to provide/withhold validation.

I could've gone if I rushed to work right afterward, which I didn't want to do, it was hard enough keeping myself together after Robyn called me to tell me it was done. Part of me wishes they waited a day or two so I could have seen her, but she was in really hard shape, Mom and Robyn swung by work to see how I was doing and Robyn showed me a picture of her this morning. She looked bad.
But thanks everyone, gonna get a tub of ice cream.

I'm sorry to hear it Saya. I was heartbroken when we had to have our old collie cross put down, I'll be devastated when Peggy ( our elderly Corgi ) goes .
A pet death for me also today. My oldest fish has finally died of old age. An opaline gourami who was 7 (the average lifespan is around 4 so she did pretty well )
The tank looks so odd without her lurking along the back...In time I'll get another centrepiece fish but not yet, too soon right now :_(

It's been a rough night. For one, I went to a screening earlier and had to deal with hundreds of camped-out Cullens waiting for the new Twilight movie. Thank goodness that wasn't the movie I was there to see. But I did have to wear dark 3-D glasses for two hours during a movie that both had major plot holes and an abrupt ending that resolved absolutely nothing (I almost walked out but wanted to see the end), by the end I had a blinding headache and wanted to just open the car door and jump out on the way home. There wasn't even that much 3-D in the movie. Ugh.
