Opinions On The "Real I.D. Act"
How many are willing to accept a Nationwide Identification Card?
Not me they can keep it,I don't like the idea of "Showing Papers" on request to anybody.

They tried to introduce a national ID card in this country and everyone went mental so they scrapped that idea and introduced a voluntary ID card, except that it's compulsory for foreign nationals. Now the British people are satisfied because their privacy is somewhat protected, even at the expense of foreign nationals. This country is shit.

We've always had I.D. Cards here, but they're so easy to fake it's not even worth having them. The only reason I would want an I.D. Card in Britain is so I can buy booze.

He does have a point, it's highly unlikely they could ever make a counterfit-proof I.D. card, they have a hard enough time preventing counterfitting of money. Even iris scaning and finger print scanning isn't foolproof, the mythbusters proved anyone can fool a fingerprint scanner.

The night was black was no use holding back
'Cos I just had to see was someone watching me
In the mist dark figures move and twist
was all this for real or some kind of hell
666 the Number of the Beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released.

The current Australian government seems to have decided against trying to implement a national identification card, so I won't be affected unless they lose the next election.

Aren't there plans to make it compulsory when applying for passports?

I was wrong, it will be compulsory to be added to the National Identity Register when applying for a passport.

Wow, more New World Order paranoia out of Deadman. Do you not have a state issued driver's licence or ID card? How is that any different than moving to a nationwide ID? I got pulled over once going through Oklahoma and, due to being a JR and having a father with bad driving records in multiple states, when they ran my name my licence came up as suspended in California and Nevada. So, you already have state issued "papers" and those state agencies already share information.
While, on the other hand, it would be pretty damn useful to people who have jobs involving the sales of tobacco/alcohol, especially in locations that get a lot of out of state patrons, allowing them to quickly determine if the person trying to purchase an age restricted product is of legal age. Was one of the more annoying things about bartending in New Orleans. Every state puting the birthday in a different damn location.
Then there's another possible benefit that could be nice in preventing identity theft. If you try and get an ID with someone else's SS card and birth certificate in a state that they've already obtained one, their picture's on file with the records. The picture not matching up with the person trying to get a new ID/DL is going to raise some red flags, no? However, if the person who the SS number belongs to has never lived in the state Mr. Identity Thief is making the attempt in then there's no file, hence no picture, to raise that red flag.
So no, I don't have a problem with a nationwide ID system. That isn't to say, if one were proposed, that I wouldn't have an issue with some of the specifics in the legislation. Quit listening to so much Ron Paul and Alex Jones, companies like Choice Point make concern over national ID so much BS. There's private database companies out there that know more about you than you do and the government doesn't need warrants to buy access to it.

As far as the Alcohol issue.
You do know what Kentucky (As well as the rest of the Appalachian Mountain Region) is known for right?
Most of the kids I grew up with learned how to make their own at 16 from watching an Uncle,a Granddaddy,or (In my case) watching Pappy cook it up in the back yard.
Hell in some cases the best White Lightning was made by somebody's Grandma'.
Not something I'm really proud of mind you,but it's the truth.

That's been the way here, too. My dad still makes cherry wine, brews beer and distills in our garage. The local farmers all do it and customs and excise don't care because their fathers are probably farmers.

Don't see what the big deal is. US already has Social Security cards and state IDs. They have you tagged and numbered since birth. What's the difference?

It can be, but for 99% of people, it's just necessary, and usually helpful.

I'd rather not have another ID card.
It won't consolidate all existing data in one place, it'll just add at least one more database to be left on a train, hacked or messed with.
One more card to use for identity theft if your wallet's nicked- and this one rather more comprehensive.
And the bloody UK ID card is meant to be on RFID technology and it's not well encrypted. People can make their own RFID readers if they want, quite easily.
Sod it. I don't want another. I'll stick with what I have at the moment, and I don't think they need all the additional fingerprinting and biometric data.
