Crimson Peak

Pretty corny, but I didn't hate it. A lot of it was so ridiculous that I had to laugh out loud, like some of the overtly poetic one-liners and the bloody-looking ground to make it extra ~spooky~.

Have to agree .. I'd built it up so damned much in my head.
At least I got to have a little drool over Victorian costuming.

Well that sounds like a rather large let down. I was hoping for something spectacular. Oh well, I'll probably still watch it.

It wasn't the biggest disappointment ever. I totally forgot about it after I saw a preview for it like, a year ago, so I didn't have any expectations. Guillermo del Toro makes beautiful movies, so it's at least worth a watch for the gothy aesthetic. I feel like he could have made it so much scarier than it was; it seemed like the monsters and mayhem are always a bit held back in his works. Aaanyway, I totally recommend it but I probably won't be watching it over and over.

Oh it is lovely! It's me .. not it
I tend to watch trailers, freak right out, expect too much!
So nothing's ever perfect or enough in reality, compared to my assumptions.
To be fair admittedly I watched CP on a naughtily downloaded early cam copy.
I couldn't wait .. so honestly it wasn't fully juicy if ya get me?
On a moonlit eve I drove to a nearby town and was gonna watch in la cinema.
Buuut then I observed couples going in .. realized I was a total saddo.
Smoked a cig, came home lol ..
Probs just as well cos cinemas tend to trigger my anxiety!
THEY'RE TOO LOUD :o
Christ the night how can a film be enjoyable at THOSE decibels!?

I see. It's actually for the best that I see the movie with a tad of poor expectations anyway. As to not be disappointed. Scary movies and I don't generally get along because I hole them to the expectations of giving me the same fear that I experienced after watching The Ring as a kid. Which is silly, because as a kid everything is scary. I'll still watch it, as I do like Del Toro and the aesthetics of the movie looked amazing in the trailer.

Oooo yes The Ring trilogy & Ju~On/The Grudge are some of my favourite films!
I love spectral apparition type stories as opposed to blood and gore ..
Don't think you'll experience disappointment; the story is good with nice little twists & turns, the acting is wonderful and the costuming and sets ~ QUALITY

In my book the original of The Ring was a masterpiece. For once Hollywood got it right and actually improved on the Japanese original - and you can count the number of times that's happened on an emu's foot (three toes )

I remember the Australian 'Movie Show' reviewers at the time calling it, "really creepy." And they were right. It's full of amazing ideas and sequences - who can forget the phone call and the distorted photographs or Becca's face when they find her in the wardrobe or the horse jumping overboard from the ferry and finding the little girl's room in the barn - the list is endless.

Of course then they went and made a totally unnecessary sequel which upset and reversed the resolution and closure of the original but to me that first film stands as a rare gem in a wasteland of rubbish.
