Fallout 3

Has anyone played Fallout 3?

I'm a huge fan of the original and second Fallout games, and I'm hoping that Fallout 3 will be good as well. I admit that, after a ten year lapse, the gameplay is going to be different, but I'm hoping that the gritty, retro-future feel is still there. In the end, it's the atmosphere that made me love Fallout and Fallout 2, and I can only hope that Bethesda kept it intact Anyone have input?

I've never played Oblivion, but being better than is certainly preferable to being worse.

Yeah, it still retains the retro-future flavor from what I noticed of the videos. A bit Mad Max in some aspects, but yes... Oblivion with guns. Which isn't entirely a bad thing at all. In fact, quite worth the money I think.

I'm psyched about it. I talked to one of my friends who just bought it, and he says that it's really good. Plus, they kept the one-armed leather jacket. The leather jacket is, by far, the coolest looking armor in the original. I can't wait.

Played it last night. Its pretty kewl. Much like the first two you have to design a character by taking a few tests. Plus, the first couple of levels you play as a child/teen and how you complete the missions decides what attributes your character will have in the game.

Its pretty kewl, but right now I'm still in the early levels and haven't got out of the childhood/character development part yet...

I'm playing it hardcore right now. It's freakin addicting. It's far better than Fable 2 in my opinion. But maybe that's just because I like post-apocalyptic themes anyway.

My character is almost level 15. That being said I only have like 15% of the map discovered - its a fecking huge game sure.

Well once I get my 360 back I shall be getting the collectors edition.
I've been captivated by adverts, trailers and updates on the game for a rather long time.
I love the whole psuedo50s thing.
And the combat system's pretty immense.

I've already got the money so I can go straight out for a copy once I get my big grey brick back.

Nice. I'm waiting for the semester to end, because I know if I start the game now I'll get sucked in and my grades will suffer. I bought the collector's edition already, and in one of my rare moments of strength and rationality I gave it to my girlfriend to hide. She's under orders not to give it back for any reason until Dec. 17th.

Currently hooked on it. I've never played any of the previous Fallout games but was a huge Oblivion addict and there are definite similarties between the two. Fallout 3, however, has improved on what let Oblivion down: there are fewer sidequests, but the ones available have more depth to them; there are more voice actors and fewer 'generic' NPCs so you don't feel like you've met the same character three different times already, and the style of combat has vastly improved and is much more engaging.

Definitely a winner.

I've never played Oblivion, but it sounds like blending it with Fallout is working well. Can't wait.

Oblivion was an immense game.
What I've played of Fallout appears to be harder due to there not being magic items/spells.
Fallout's more realistic...
Well apart from the mutants.

I think even the hardcore Fallout 1&2 fans like it but just won't admit it.

As long as they keep the atmosphere I'm happy. Honestly, the self-proclaimed hardcore fans are pains in the fuckin' ass. They whine because it's different. Of course the game will be different! It's been ten years since Fallout 2! If it wasn't different there'd be something seriously wrong.

I loved Fallout for its ambience first, and its gameplay second. If the gameplay changes, and it has, I'm fine with that as long as it works. It's the style, the feel, of the game world that shouldn't be changed.

If Fallout 3 was like Fallout 2 then Bethesda probably wouldn't have spent four years developing it!
Theres lots of wandering to find places in it.
I like it.
And the music's awesome.
There's several good tracks from around the fifties.
And awesome marching band music on Enclave radio.
I'm looking forward to using custom playlists and playing all my fifties stuff.

Agreed about Bethesda's development time. Why would we want a carbon copy of the originals anyway? The "purists" need to lighten up.

I've heard that the music is excellent. My friend recorded the "Highwayman theme" from Fallout 2 (the music that plays when you access the world map after having obtained the car), and burned it onto a CD. He recorded it for eight minutes. I love driving around with that playing. I must look like a total ass to anyone that bothers paying attention, but, to me, it's great.
