I just wanted to say three things about that.
1) That's an awfully long sentence!
2) I really like the phrase "supernaturally obtuse."
3) I thought the joke part was clear. I thought the other part was clear too.

Guys, leave a.d. alone. It's not a matter of her not getting the joke; it's obviously the serious part of the statement that upset her. What was said would be insulting to any female - it's very hard for a female if someone says they basically want to get her pregnant (it can happen even on a one night stand, after all) and abandon her. So I can understand why she'd be upset, any sensible female would be. Even I kinda felt the sting.
I know you guys are just trying to help Alan feel better, and I understand that, I really do. I've been in a similar situation with a male - not nearly that bad, but he did once describe to me how he would kill me. It would be very easy for me to hate all males as a result. Alan, I hope things get better, and I seriously think you may need some legal protection from this girl. I've been following this because I've been kinda worried about you - I don't know you from Adam, but it would still suck if someone shot you. Please be safe.
