So Friday was our last day of classroom training. And I'm on the last day of a 3 day weekend before I start the new 10-7 schedule and start taking real customer calls. And a few random thoughts are bouncing around in my head.

Friday I got called out of class to be interviewed by a human resource investigator. The first thing she did was reassure me that I wasn't under investigation myself and that I should have no fear of reprisals no matter what I shared with her, as the company has a policy against that. Well, immediately the hackles on the back of my neck were up and the paranoia radar was on full alert!

Anyway, she asked me some questions about any unprofessional behavior I may have witnessed in the classroom. I knew immediately who was being investigated, and as I told my story the investigator was able to fill in some blanks that made it obvious that other people had already talked to her about this person. So it makes me wonder what will happen next when this person comes back to work.

And I recently committed to buying a birthday card over the weekend for this person and getting everyone in class to sign it on Tuesday. I'm still going to buy the card ... I just wonder if this person is still going to be around to get it.

I'm also wondering how many of my co-workers are going to be around for the long haul. They are all very bright, very capable people. The 10 people in my class were chosen from 1200 resumes, so there's no doubt that they are the cream of the crop. It's just that some of them are so full of themselves.

This is a great job that really rewards an employee well for performing. But it is a very demanding job. Some of these people act like lawyers, parsing every statement and policy on and on ... "You said we'd get our break at 10:00 am!", "What if I can't find someone to watch my kids during these hours you want me to work?" and my favorite "I don't think customers want us to say 'I'm sorry you're having trouble with your phone', they just want us to fix the problem!"

Yeah, you're working for a fortune 500 company that is rated by financial analysts as the best investment in the busines and was recently rated by JD Power as providing the most satisfactory customer service in the industry, but you know better than they do how to treat the customers!

Bah! There is such a thing as an intelligent idiot. I truly do wonder how many of them will be around in a year.

I just saw actor Terry O. Quinn (Locke) from the TV show "Lost" on Live with Regis and Kelly. He was asked if he cozied up with the producers to try to make sure his character wouldn't get killed off. He said he went the opposite way ... "Keep your head down and you might not get eaten. Know your lines, show up on time and hit your marks ... and you just might make it to another day."

Yep, that's about right. So tomorrow I'm gonna know my lines, show up on time and hit my marks. That's all I have to worry about.

Oh yeah, Spooky ... I am that. I am postive if I just focus on doing my job well, I will flourish at this company. No worries there.

I'm just making sure I'm not allowing myself to be distracted from that focus by the drama of my co-workers. Thank you for the good thoughts!

And now to respond to <<rolls d6>> 3 of the previous posts!

mutsumiasakura: Shorts under a trenchcoat... I'm not sure how I feel about that. Easy to frighten people. "Hey, I'm not wearing any pants!"

Wise Child: I hope the dreams were good, and woke you up smiling.

darkangel29: Type those things aloud more often, methinks!
