The Trivia Question Thread

****************************************

THE TRIVIA QUESTION THREAD RULES

1) Asker will post a trivia question, regarding some cultural or newsworthy piece of information. The hope is that the questions will be of such a nature that they will neither be boringly simple or frustratingly obscure. Keeping the subject in the realm of generally known information is desired, as this will help promote interest and longevity in the game.

2) Once a question is posted, anyone can post a guess at an answer, but please, only one answer per post.

3) Asker commits to checking thread at least twice a day to verify if a correct answer has been posted (more often would be preferred.) If so, Asker will copy by quote the first poster of that correct answer and identify it as the right answer. Once that is done, the identified poster of the correct answer becomes the next Asker.

4) If no correct answer has been posted within 24 hours, the Asker will post "24 HOURS ARE UP!", followed by the correct answer. The Asker then gets to ask another question.

5) If the Asker has not finalized the question within 48 hours, then anyone else who can verify a correct answer by way of online encyclopedia, www.wikipedia.org, www.dictionary.com, another legitimate reference site or a respected news organization, should do so. Unreliable information sources like blogs and forum comments are not acceptable proof of a correct answer. The first person who had posted the correct answer then becomes the Asker.

6) If no verification of a correct answer has been posted by anyone after 72 actual hours (not 3 days), the question is declared dead and the first person to claim the right online will become the next Asker.

7) These rules may be revised by the thread creator in the future to improve game play and interest in the subject.

8) The latest version of these rules should be copied by quote once each time the thread starts a new page.

So I'll start:

Fredric Baur invented the Pringles can. In 2008, what remarkable thing did he do with a Pringles can?

That IS a correct answer! It's your turn to ask a trivia question.

That does actually seem to be true of a few different breeds, it kind of depends on what you mean by "originally from northern Europe", even Maine Coons, which are technically considered American, trace back to European roots.

I'm going to go with Weegies, cuz they fit all of the criteria and they are adorable.

You are correct, the answer is the Norwegian Forest Cat. It is contested where Main Coons originally come from, however they are considered an American breed.

My kitty is part Weegie. =^.^=

Yeah, I was trying not to clog this up with more rules, but I am definitely going to have to add a qualifier that if the correct answerer does not respond with a new question within 24 hours of being notified, then the first person to call it gets to ask the next question.

I will be posting an updated modification of the rules when we flip to the next page.

In the meantime, even though Solumina answered correctly, she didn't take advantage of her opportunity to ask a new trivia question. Since you called it, Fruitbat, you get to ask the next one.

This might be a little obscure.

Where was the draft Australian constitution drawn up in 1891?

It was drafted on board the Lucinda.

The Premier of Queensland, Sir Samuel Griffith, had travelled to Sydney on the Queensland government steamship Lucinda to participate in the federation Convention. During the Easter weekend of 27/29 March 1891, Griffith made a cruise in the Lucinda to the estuary of the Hawkesbury River, taking with him Kingston and Barton, and picking up Inglis Clark on the Sunday. During the cruise, this drafting sub-committee finalised the draft of the 1891 Constitution.

No worries, Solumina. I figured it was something like that.

Next question:

Q) According to legend, what was the name of the animal that modeled for the US buffalo nickel coin introduced in 1913?

My guess, thanks to my friend Google

It was an American Bison, possibly Black Diamond from Central Park zoo.

Black Diamond is correct. I first heard that query as the final question in the U.S. National Trivia Contest sometime in the 80's.

Fruitbat, it's your turn to ask a question.
