How's your local music scene?

There is no gothrock scene in Puerto Rico that i know of and especialy not in the West Side of P.R. The punk scene is the only one that im interested in here and its not great: back then everyone had there leather jacket or a denim jacket and we all danced, drank, and had a good time with everyone. Now everything is image and if your new everyone instantly calls you a posuer . I took my friend to his first show A couple of months ago and everyone next to me was asking "who's that dumb guy jumping around? "

He had the best time of his life and everyone was just standing there not even enjoying the music, just staring and moving there heads to the rythm of the music. Theyre probably scared of messing up there Leather jacket or a patch might fall off.It bothered me alot. What happened to the "were kids and were pissed off but were all a unit and we stay together, have fun together, and make music for each other" when did it come to be only the clothing? :?

I have great time there listening and dancing to the music but the people acting all cool and stuff sometimes dont let me fully enjoy my night.I think the scene needs new kids to shake things up,new young bands(i hope mine does something good),and the old dudes to remember that they once didnt know about alot of bands or couldnt afford or make fancy clothing.I always try not to pick on young kids ,i try to encourage them and tell them what its all about so they dont end up with the wrong ideas.

So How is you local music scene? :?: :?

Rap, rednecks (country), rapping rednecks, and Nickelback-style pop.

I actually met someone a few days ago who's heard of and likes the Cruxshadows, though.

Music scene? There ain't one here.

Luckily, I'm moving back home on the 5th of May and already have tickets for Massive Atack and the Pixies reunion on the 11th of June (if terrorist bombings don't happen).

Yes, it should, but I don't moderate the Whining Forum (so I can flame, bitch and moan without any sense of responsibility).

eh.... depends on which scene you're talking about.... the only one that I'm involved in or know anything about is the Metal Scene, but as for that, it's horribly fragmented by Genre-

The Black Metal Kvlt Elitists never leave their garages, bekavse if you rekord in a stvdio with a band, it's not Trve, yov have to rekord alone in yovr garage by yovrself, and yov kan't ever leave, bekavse then yov might get popvlar, and Black Metal ISN'T Popvlar.... oh, and the only good TRVE KVLT ELITE BLACK METAL comes from Norway.... and if yov hadn't notiked, in order to be trve Black Metal, yov have to vse "v"'s instead of "u" and "k" instead of "c"...

The Death Metal Nazis listen to REAL DEATH METAL and ONLY DEATH METAL... THERE IS NO OTHER METAL!!!!! RAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!! IF YOU QUESTION MY METALNESS, I WILL KILL YOU IN A MOSH PIT!!!!! DEATH METAL IS THE ONLY GOOD METAL, IN FACT IT'S THE ONLY METAL, EVERYTHING ELSE IS PUSSY SHIT!!!!!! RRRRRRAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Hardcore (hXc) Kids listen to hXc and ONLY hXc... oh, and you're SOOOOOO NOT hXc if you're not Straight Edge (sXe)..... and Hatebreed is SOOOOOO NOT hXc... and you have to be able to "Hardcore Dance"...

The Old-School metalheads listen to the only REAL Metal, the ORIGINAL Metal, nothing made after 1985 is REAL Metal, if it's not Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead or Black Sabbath, it's NOT Metal, it's nu-metal poseur SHIT!!!!!! DEATH TO THE POSEURS!!!!!!

Then there's the Nu-Metal Mallcore kids... the Metalhead equivalent of a "babygoth" or "babybat"... the 14 year old kids who think Limp Bisquick (or whatever the fuck they're called), KoRn, Disturbed and Static-X are the extent of the metal world... oh, and Metallica's first album was the Black Album, and anything with distorted guitars is metal...

So to finish up my rather long-winded post, people don't cross genres when they go to shows, if there's one of each type of band playing, there will be a different crowd for each band (except for Black Metal bands, because REAL Black Metal bands are so underground and KVLT that they don't even play shows)... People go to shows to see their friends play, and then leave, noone exposes themselves to new bands or new music, and the scene stagnates... There are also SOOOOOOO many bands that there's usually 15 or 20 shows on any given Friday or Saturday, and people may have enough cash to go to one or two a month, as such, noone goes to shows, promoters give up the buisness, club owners stop hosting show, and the scene dies...

oh, by the way, I almost forgot, there's one other type of metalhead, there's people like me and a few others I know who don't really give a flaming fuck about genre or style or crowd and like all the different types of metal, and actually go to shows and stay for the whole thing, and actually support more than one or two bands...

the views in this post have been horribly overgeneralized and exaggerated to make fun of idiots, if you are one of these idiots and take offense to any of my remarks, then you can kiss my ass, I have my freedom of speech for the time being, and until thats taken away, I'm gonna say whatever the hell I goddamn well please

and if you wish to find out more about the NorCal Metal Scene, visit the newly re-opened VOICE OF THE NORCAL METAL SCENE- POWERSLAVE.COM

Here in Serbia we have quite a vast metal scene (a huge bulk of different bands) but most of it sucks. Only few bands actualy published an album or two and most of them are plain bad (as in: bad musicianship, terrible vocals, idiotic lyrics, boring performance).

IMHO, Serbian metal scene needs something really original, a band that would have the balls to actualy push itself into public (it'd quickly be labeled "poseur band" and "comercial" but hey, its the way those things work). We need someone with a big performance, someone who would get on TV and work hard to get their albums out and shock this country.

However, as it is now, we just have a bulk of different "concerts" every week, most of these concerts featuring bands nobody ever heard of.

Sad but true...

Fo'rilla, blood!

If you ain't Westbay pushin dank, you gets shanked. Cuz all posers of inferior styles ain't got what it takes. To be truly hard as dankcore breaks, we leaves you permanently scarred in the streets with bloodstains for days. Grindcore in the Bay is here to stay. And if West ain't whatcha claim, then get the fuckouttatheway...beeeoootch!

Aughahaha!

The Bay is the place if you're into powerviolence, with the westbay grind set slammin still with Agents of Satan, Riffmerchants, Carniceria. And of what little metal goes down, Severed Savior slays. On other sides, Watch Them Die steady cholothrash, as creeksiders Antagony deathgrind. Watch out for the crustcoreage of Dissonance! I'm all shouted out.

This is hardcore!

Otherwise...

and you knew it was coming...

HIPHOP is the shit!!!

Anticon

*sighs*

All depends on who you are.

The ‘scene’ here is very exclusive. Supposedly, this city has the one of the best ‘noise’ scenes going around.

But I don’t listen to ‘noise’, or any of the other stuff that is played. For enlightenment, here is a list of descriptives:

industrial
dark techno
post-rock
ambient/atmospheric
trip-hop/light d'n'b/breaks
light/minimalist techno

Sometimes goth, and ebm get played, but unfortunately, only the most obscure of the obscure. And so, I’ve stopped going to the only bar with it’s one night of ‘alternative’ music. A great night for people who only listen to that, or can find a beat in all that to dance to, but not for me.

Same goes for live shows. I’ve gone to a few and the feeling’s the same. Lots of button pushing and knob turning, but nothing else to offer my obviously ignorant ears or eyes. Again, very exclusive.

It’s unfortunate, because my tastes run on the side of ‘mainstream’, which is odd considering I have to order all my stuff from either on-line or from the indie record shop, and wait 6 weeks to 6 months, because they don’t even carry the stuff.

It’s a catch 22, Cruxshadows and the like is too ‘mainstream’ to be played at the bar, but too obscure to be carried at said indie store.

Now, with that said, there is some hope. This same bar has started a new night, and it has a lot of promise. Lots of older stuff, more recognizable stuff, hopefully.

I’m all for variety, I’m all staying away from the same 12 tired tracks that get played over and over again, but at the same time, if you me want to park my ass at your bar and spend my cash, you had better woo me with something I (and others) recognize. It’s not hard to do. The second something, lets say KMFDM Juke-Joint-Jezabel, gets played and EVERYBODY hits the dance floor, you aught to take note and find stuff along the same vein.

Sorry, this has turned more to a rant than anything, but it’s my two cents.

I live 10 minutes from downtown Austin... I'm convinced that I have it made. We have all kinds of artists stopping by at any given time. Last Friday I got to see Bozo Porno Circus... it was so awesome. Cradle of Filth plays a lil venue on occasion (though, I seem to have a knack for missing it). Can't complain!

It's weird here in Seattle. The music scene, as a whole, is getting better. However, it's really sad to say this, but the goth scene here is EXTREMELY derivitive of almost every fourth-rate Bauhaus/Sisters knock-off you can think of. I really want to like a lot of these bands, since they're nice people and all. But ever since Steve Knouse parted ways with Faith And Disease, it seems like the scene as a whole got stuck in this creative rut where they're replaying 1992 in their heads over and over again.

It gets even worse when you add in the whole "scene" mentality people have. That's where you start grouping up into pre-designated neo-tribes, and don't allow any outside influences to come in and "mess up the scene". What this translates to, as far as the goth scene is concerned, is that creative rut thing I mentioned in the previous paragraph. No new bands are really allowed to develop their own voice (for lack of a better term). If they want shows, they have to sound EXACTLY the way (insert famous goth band here) sounds like. Otherwise, no shows, no audience, and after a while with neither, break-up from inactivity.

Now, I'm no member of the white-belt-brigade, but I do have a lot of respect for that scene, as far as Seattle is concerned. Here's a "scene" that does allow for it's member musicians to develop their own identity, and still give them respect and support. I mean, you can't really say that Modest Mouse, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Spits, The Girls, The Briefs, the Murder City Devils, the Rapture (yeah, they lived in Seattle for a spell, so I CAN toss them in), the Blood Brothers, IQU, the Warm Jets, or FCS North sound either alike or derivitave. Yet they're part of the "hipster" scene.

And as far as music scenes in Seattle are concerned, the "hipster" scene is by no means the only real game in town. Nor is really the most active or expansive. So it's always odd for me to go to the Mercury or the Vogue and hear the same stuff I'd been hearing almost 10 years ago.

Am I being odd about this?

the metal scene in brisbane is very small, once a week plus assorted other gigs.. and that night every type of metal head/goth comes out so the place is packed. usually a wide variety of bands play and everyone respects everyone elses tastes in music, not many people only come for one band and then just leave.

there is no metal clubs at all. one goth club one night a week with all the newer 'goth' and nu-metal stuff. and once a month theres a old school goth club which about 20people (if that) show up to.

There is no decent metal scene to speak of in San Diego, CA. It sucks. The best concert I went to was Ozzfest. And there were only three bands I was there to see. Great people watching and stuff to buy, though. I wanna go to this years, as the lineup is so much better, but I can't because it's too far.
All there is, is punk, metalcore, pop and rap. I like none of those, except for there being one decent metalcore band, but that's it.
The punks think they are the hardest in my school too. They dress like the typical 80s punk, but they are all younger, once you saw them you couldn't take them seriously. Black metal would annihilate their asses.

Black metal is my favorite genre at this point. If there are fans, they are just scattered around.
I'm pretty sure I'm gonna move up to Santa Cruz to go to school, things will likely be better up there. And San Francisco is only 76 miles away.

There is a wealth of local bands in Westchester, NY. My friends' bands among them.

If you like punk (which I don't usually, but it's my friends and I actually prefer them to most stupid punk bands), you should check out the ordinary heroes who will be playing at CBGB's Sept. 13th. They have a website if you want to listen before you go (and i don't blame you) it's http://www.ordinaryhero.com

The Goth scene in Athens is getting better. Not club-wise, concert-wise.

There are only 2 goth clubs here and a couple more that do once a month gothic parties.

One of the goth clubs is going downhill fast, I don't actually know if it's still open. The other is too small and is always packed, you can't dance because of all the people and you can't breathe from all the smoke :?

But more and more bands come over to play gigs and that's awsome.
The likes of And One, Das Ich, Diary of Dreams, [SITD:], Wolfsheim, The Cure, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Psyche, VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk and many more have graced us with their presence.

Imagine... when Bauhaus came to play in 1981 people thought they were punks... Now it's much MUCH better.

Still, most of the Greeks listen to crap Greek music or mainstream like Christina Aguilera.

The rock/metal/alternative scene is big though, many clubs and concerts to go to, and a couple or radio stations play only rock/metal/alternative.

The music scene here in Orlando, Fl. is horrible. People are used to listening a mix of hip-hop but from Puerto Rico (sorry, I dont know the name of that type of music), hiphop, R&B, "bad" electronic music, and latin music. Also, you can find some punk, but is not everywhere, and in downtown there is a pub wich plays gothic music only once a week, and on weekdays some '80s music (whic I love). I think Orlando could be better, but with its mix of cultures makes it a little bit hard.
