If I could mail them I would, I tend to go overboard with sweets and make way more than me or my roommates can handle.

Well, today is my weekly trip to the local grocery so I think I'll start looking.
Saya, do you know any good vegen Christmas sweet recipes? The rare occasions I bake I'll make enough to bring to my parents for their Christmas Eve dinner and my mom's diabetic.

I have lots of sweet recipes, but give me a sec to look for anything that might possibly ever be safe for a diabetic to be in the same room with XD

She can eat some, she just has to keep an eye on how much she consumes. For instance, if she eats any kind of potato, it'll be half of a baked potato or three or four pieces of red potatoes max. Normally she'll have honey as a sweetener. Hope the info helps

ooooooooooooh you know what would be really good? Charoset, A friend of mine made it for Passover and I asked her if she could make me some for Christmas, its that good. Her version had apple and walnuts and you have a lot of control over how much sugar goes in.
I'm also thinking little apple tarts and hand pies if she can handle a bit of brown sugar.

You can use agave as a diabetic friendly sweetener, apparently the body metabolizes it differently than other sugars, it doesn't work in all recipes (like a lot of cookies, it messes with the texture, but is okay in softer ones like molasses cookies). There are a lot of diabetics in Jake's family and I've been able to make some goodies for them, I'll see if I can dig up some recipes for you (usually I just kind of do recipe conversion on the fly).

I know for a fact that the Whole Foods here already has eggnog, I'm not a huge eggnog fan but Jake was obnoxiously giddy about it.

Man when I was 18 and lived in a dorm, the night before we went home for Christmas, me and my roommate bought eggnog and ordered pizza, and there was a special on and we got a bigger pizza than normal, plus garlic fingers plus donair sauce. We consumed it all.
I was sick for days afterwards and I never had eggnog again until last year I found a vegan version and wanted to try it. I think I'm okay with eggnog again but I still have flashbacks.

Oh right I said I would get you recipe! Well I can't seem to find most of them but this one I have saved on my computer since everyone always wants it (including my mother and both of Jake's grandmothers so you know they are good)
Soft Molasses Cookies
makes about 3 dozen
3/4 cup shortening (3/4 cup correct amount)
1 cup dark agave nectar (amber works if you don't have dark)
1 large egg
1/4 cup blackstrap molasses (you can substitute agave but you miss that true molasses flavor)
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Directions:
Cream together shortening and agave
Stir in egg and molasses and mix well
Fold in dry ingredients and stir
Chill for approximately 1 hour
Preheat oven to 350°
Grease cookie sheet
Roll dough into small balls (I use a medium melon baller to help keep the size relatively uniform)
Roll balls in sugar before placing on cookie sheet (you can use splenda)
Bake for 9 minutes
Leave on sheet one minute until set
Place on rack to cool completely
I will warn you that when baking with agave things are a little extra sticky, both batters and when you take them out of the oven, but once they are exposed to air and allowed to breath they get a normal texture. It isn't too noticeable with these cuz molasses cookies are usually made with molasses and brown sugar wich are also pretty sticky but I wanted you to know in case you try other holiday goodies.

I totally forgot how popular sweets are during the holidays. What happened to cheese and sausage? It is going to be tough. I am trying to avoid eating a lot of candy. One or two pieces is probably fine. ~ yuck
I drink maybe once in every few months or even years. I think people make beer or wine a big deal because it is expanded in their minds. Guess it isn't a big deal for me, so I just don't relate.

Catch, I wouldn't mind going to Area 51 for Christmas, but the way my luck runs I'd probably be abducted by a UFO. The way everyone elses' luck runs, they'd probably just bring me right back.
Btw, thanks for posting the recipe, Solumina. I love molasses cookies.

I guess I get a gift certificate every year and actually buy during the winter season. That's kind of a tradition.
I've definitely decided that I will go out Dec. 29 to Area 51. It'll probably be a big gathering for the New Year. I like the idea of celebrating the New Year better anyway.

I am going. It is more of a New Year party anyway. This sat dec. 29. I am not going to dress up tough. I feel blah. My period should have started before last weekend; instead, it is just starting now, but I should at least feel semi-perky before the event, so whatever. I might get there early and leave late. Maybe I'll stay a little later. People can talk to me. I'll try not to threaten who does. I've been working on it.
