That's awful V. How are you and the others handling things?

Unfortunately it seems like the military isn't very good about dealing with suicide, despite how common it is. I know it isn't the same situation but a Sargent studying Chinese killed himself last week and other than briefly pulling students from class to tell them what happened and talk to them about how they should report it if they seen any warning signs that someone is suicidal, it seems like everyone is just acting like nothing happened. The people who were hit pretty hard feel like they have to be really careful what they say because they could loose their clearance and therefor their job if they are deemed to be emotionally compromised.

Sol: Society in general isn't good at dealing with suicide.

Sorry to hear that Versus.

While it is true that society isn't great about dealing with suicide the military seems to really take it to an extreme. As I said people can loose their clearance and their job for showing any emotional response. They won't just be looked down upon or mocked for being distraught, their career could be ruined if they even acknowledge it as a significant event.

Business as usual. Except that I got a counseling statement that suicide is a violation of the Unifirm Code of Military Justice. The hidden message is that a soldier who commits suicide could have their death benefits denied to their family, and unsuccessful attempts are punishable and could (read: will) get you kicked out. I actually remember a Marine who was court-marshaled for it.

Samfundsfag C I believe it was. It's a Danish book, so I doubt you are going to get much from attempting to read it.

Versus: I am so sorry to hear about your unit. And sorry to hear that the military is that bad at dealing with it. I hope you'll be ok.

Apparently I will be hosting a Super Bowl party, no clue how many people will be here but seeing as almost everyone we know lives in barracks I'm guessing there will be quite a few. Potentially huge party with no time to plan. Awesome. At least it is a Super Bowl so as long as there is beer and some sort of food or food-like item everyone should be happy, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to freak out trying to get everything perfect.

Such a sad state of affairs.

I recently heard on the radio, of a lady who had terminal cancer, with a couple of young kids, whose husband was overseas (in the army I believe) serving his country, and she was afraid to use the military support service, in case it reflected badly on her husband. She even didn't want to get him back home on compassionate grounds, because she thought it would reflect on his military service in a negative way. Instead, her parents moved in with her, and were nursing her and caring for her two small children.

Now that's seriously fucked up.

@Timeless: poopers.

Saya - it's superbowl time of the year? it's the only game I watch, and I have absolutely no idea what they are doing, but I know when someone gets the ball, I yell Run.

I mostly watch the Super Bowl for the commercials but Baltimore is in my blood (even if I'm not really a devoted fan of any of their teams) so I kind of have to care a little about the game this year and of course have Baltimore style food.

I'm going to try and convince a professor to let me write about unicorns, so I'm doing some research to make sure there's enough material out there for me to write a 3000 page paper, and you know, there seems to be pretty little written about unicorns as a girly thing. Plenty of it as a religious symbol, but not so much about its secularization and the fascination little girls have with them.

I'm looking at online book stores and I got a little excited to see Into The Land Of Unicorns by Bruce Coville online. I LOVED that book when I was a kid but was never able to find it sequels. Would it be weird to order the series?

That seems more correct xD I'd also hate to be the professor who had to grade an entire classroom's 3000 page papers

Love listening to radio national. Learn so much love the cool music on The Inside Sleeve. Oh and i love Elephant Revival, and Robby Buck's voice.

Ohh and Phil Adams. His show is awesome!

And I'm pulling out the pom-poms for our young australian of the year Akram Azimi. He's so inspiring, and so positive despite everything he's been through. What an amazing young man he is.

Ugh, my new meds have changed the way things taste. I either can't taste anything at all or the few things I can taste, taste wrong. For example, the always super minty fresh toothpaste tastes like lemons to me >.<

I want a proper pen pal. Like people had when I was a kid. It'd be so nice to have a letter through the post that wasn't another bill or medical appointment
