I feel your pain on that one ... I made less than 100K last year, myself.

MUCH LESS.

sounds like a lot of fun
I've written books before, not sure on how many words but this should be easy
Thanks Pain for this challenge.

Write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days with emphasis on quantity not quality? Doesn't Stephen King do this every month?

You could try the Hunter Thompson approach. Get completely hammered on a cocktail of Psychoactive substances, start writing and don't finish until sober, then repeat until your finished. It might even work

I wouldn't try it on psychoactive substances, but give me a bottle of fireball whiskey and I'll attempt this

I'll give the novel a shot, but I suspect I'll get bored before I'm even close to done. No commitment!

Definitely going to do this. Looks like a good way to get writing. Because half the difficulty in writing itself is the editing part of the brain, fearing that what you're writing won't be accurate or won't make sense, that sort of thing. This looks like a nice exercise to take some of the pressure off and get your brain rolling. Besides, it also looks like fun.

Me too. I stayed up all night reading The Stand. His style of writing is riveting.

I've only ever read one Stephen King book... can't remember which one, but it was after I watched the movie 1408. The book scared me more than the movie did and I had nightmares for a week.

I couldn't do this, I mean I just can't let someone else read my prose if I haven't gone over it dozens of times

It does work. And then when you've finally sobered up, you've either hopelessly misplaced the manuscript or re-decorated it vomitiously.

That being said, I'm down with NaNo this year. I'd forgotten about it, actually. Thanks Pain for reminding us. Now I need to ferret out an idea.

My friend heard of this and said, "You're doing it!" So I guess I am. I was going to do it last year, but I got way behind. I am... going to really try this year. I have everything all planned out, and I'm rather excited. <3

Well this is a revolting development: I open a new account at NaNoWriMo and the server keeps timing out, it's too damn busy! Crap. I am just going to update later after I start writing at midnight.

(Hint: it is the sequel to Town and Turret)

Well alright! I started at midnight, and, after writing for two hours, I ended up with 2628 words!!
I know that is a bit slow, but I simply couldn't stop myself from re-reading and editing.

I started but then I realized what a tremendous chore my idea would be, I'd end up doing more research than I would actually writing. I'll have think of something else quick!

And the website is so insanely slow!

I've now typed 5877 words... not bad for the first day so far, no? ^_^
I did take a long break though.

okay, so do you just write for 30 days, post little snippets until you're done, or download the whole thing wholesale. Had the same problem HP, with it timing out because of overload (and the typical nasty Idaho weather). However, you write about what you know, and that is exactly what I am doing. So, good luck everyone.
